a message to bass players. I need help
I am aiming to make a band and I want to male sure it lasts long instead of a few weeks. So what I need to know is how to make bass lines for a song. I want to make sure that when it comes to song making I can make a bass line for the song.
So please help me!!!! Please don't insult :thumb: |
bass lines should flow with the drummer and compliment the guitars. unless youre a band like primus where it stands out more than usual.

^ this is true if you ever get lost in a song just match the bass drum unless its a solo or you really stand out no one will know

bass players should be best friends with their drummers. basically if you are unsure of yourself at first just play root notes to the drum rhythms. listen to the kick drum especially closely... when you start to get more profficient you'll learn to interact with the guitar line... and circle the drum rhythms kind of like being on a big rubber band i suppose.... you ebb and flow with a smooth line which isnt precisely following the drum rhythm... but rather complements and interacts with it. good bass really is a transitional thing supporting the guitar line while rideing tandem with drums to kind of tie everything together through the root notes of the song.
hope i helped some :) |
Thanks everyone I hope it works :thumb:

Try to add your own little runs now and again to make it interesting. When adding little runs try and compliment the drums. For eg:- play your bass notes with the drum fills etc..
Learn a basic pentantonic scale and that will be a good starter. |
listen to the drums and get the guitar notes. keep it simple but interesting.

Look at the best players not the best soloists
Bass players are part of the rhythm section. They are not the lead singer or lead guitar. If you listen to the greatest selling albums of all time the bass player is supporting the song as a general rule. A lot of what is required is the head count in the band. For trios listen to Jack Bruce with Cream. As the band size grows so do the options. The most important thing I believe is it should enhance and complete the song.
