Well I've never played a Yamaha one but as I say the Gibson was less than impressive. Had no character of its own, no resonance or volume at all unplugged and had to be overdriven to sh*t to get anything out of it.
I agree the SG shape isn't to everyone's taste and although beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course, it does lack the practicality of say a Tele or something.
Upper fret access not a concern for me as anything above fret 14 is a foreign country.
