I have an (older, not sure what year though) Epiphone Special II that doesn't see a whole lot of playing now that I have my Denelectro. I've thought about putting some new pickups in it, but don't want to spend more than the guitar is worth to replace them. What are some good, affordable options?

You can get Epi standard SG or Les Pauls depending on the model from 200-500 range. Gibson may be putting out a lot of crap but Epiphone is still producing solid instruments. Or go a totally different route. There are so many low to mid range priced guitars that are fantastic today.

well I think I am going to pass on the greg bennett. The thing was trashed when I went to go see it .
what about this? I could restring it for lefty right? would it be a horrible choice for a first electric? I just love these guitars too much >:-/. How much should I offer if I do (i mean the thing is in rough shape) Vintage 1966-1967 Tiesco electric guitar sunburst - Calgary Musical Instruments For Sale - Kijiji Calgary Canada. |

And you would restring it the same way Hendrix did. Just switch the strings opposite.

Nothing that would cost that much money to have done. Personally I only buy guitar I can try out first, since so many things can be wrong with it.

Disagree. A guitar that old could easily have stripped screws, a warped neck, the finish could have reacted with a vinyl stand, etc etc.
Essentially, when a guitar is that old, anything could be wrong with it. Without seeing it first I'd be wary. Of course, for £100 it could, easily, be a gem, or a nightmare. No way to tell. As for restringing it lefty - Yes it can be done, but I wouldn't recommend it, simply because the nut might need replacing to accept the alternate guages, and without it you might run into a bunch of problems.

Tis why I mentioned you should play it quickly first. As if it passes those tests then there are only somewhat minor things to worry about.
