Hey
cool- i just started playing guitar about a month ago too. I'm teaching myself though- do lessons help? I do get confused at times. What kind of music are you learning? I really want to play metal but it's very difficult. I really want to be in a band too.

Lessons helped me depends on the person though. I had a good teacher though, he taught me some cool techniques. Oh and learn that part of the one solo with the tapping it is easy and hella fast, and stupid emo girls who don't know jack **** aboute playing will think your the ****.

dont buy into the image or the style that goes on around you. when its gone it would probably feel weird... like those 80s guys that still have awesome mullets.I would suggest making your own music and making up melody's, if that sounds ***, it isnt, black sabbath has good melody's and so does metallica. having a good melody is the basis of an entire song.

why is this in the talk instruments forum?

anywho..

dont even think about being in a band yet. trust me, you arent ready. a band takes commitment and to be honest it takes skill, a lot of it. at least to be any good it does. so just keep learning, practice a whole hell of a lot....etc..

a good way of learning to play different styles is to play other bands songs. just turn your stereo way up or your amp way down, and play along with cd's that you like. http://mxtabs.net seems to have tabs for just about any band you could ever imagine. find a band you like, learn the tabs, and play along.

once you get better, you'll start making stuff up, just putting chords together, stuff like that. thats how songs are written. dont force yourself to play another bands style, just play the stuff that comes to you.

take my advice though. dont even think about trying to form a band until you have quite a bit of skill. its very very hard otherwise, and other musicians wont keep you in their band if you cant play. the better you get, the more musicians you will meet who are of your skill level, eventually it will come together.
