Properly connect usb midi keyboard to computer
Hi,
I know this is a basic question, but I'm kinda new to this: I'd like to connect my Akai MPK mini keyboard to my computer properly. I've tried connecting it with the usb cable, but there's a delay when playing on it with my DAW. Should or can I connect my midi with my audio interface or how does this work? Thanks in advance! |
Usually, you either hook them up via USB or with a midi cable, from MIDI OUT on your keyboard to MIDI IN on your audio interface.
But usb should be okay. See about getting an ASIO driver. This is a driver for your soundcard with typically much less latency than what you otherwise find. One might be installed already, so check Audio settings in your DAW and look for ASIO. Edit: Not sure what you DAW is, but here you can see how ASIO is chosen from the device list in Reaper. http://renewxl354.weebly.com/uploads.../812050721.jpg If you were using DirectSound or WaveOut instead, you would get much more latency. If you have no ASIO-driver, try googling ASIO4ALL. |
MIDI to interface is still using USB to send the signal, so it's more than likely your system resources.
The best solution is to go into your DAW and adjust the latency from there. |
Hi,
Thank you for your replies! Yes, I'll use ASIO4ALL. |
