In general you should be trying to subtract frequencies with the EQ knobs rather than adding gain to them. Gain in general is not conducive to a clear or natural sounding guitar production. (in my experience) As far as settings and recording approaches - you are going to need some experimentation to see what works best with your combination of gear and room acoustics etc. The more you start to understand and predict the connection between different ways to use the same gear, the faster you can work down the line. So it is worthy of the time to just try everything.

There is not much specific for me to suggest, seeing as how the recording on that Soundcloud has been taken down.
