Well, unless you have one already then you're going to be spending more money on a power amp for those speakers because they're passive.

You're better off getting a pair of active monitors if you don't want to worry about buying a separate power amp. Also I noticed that the freq response on the Behringers only go down to 55Hz... You'll want something that goes down to at least 35 or 40Hz if you're planning on using or identifying any sub frequencies in your mix.

I own a pair of these and they're only 40 more squiddies than your current overhead, but I can vouch for these as I've been using them for about 4 years now.

Yeah, completely forgot about the whole passive monitors needing an amp thing when I posted that.

They're a little over budget, but I'll maybe be able to stretch, I'll see how my funding is when I get my bursary through, going to get some headphones too (for using In the computer room at uni) so it's not a massive issue if I just have to use them to get the bottom end done instead of the monitors.

Personally, i would say if you're producing your own music... headphones arn't really the way to go, as they don't detect the little mishaps aswell as monitors will. KBK's are really nice, maybe you're better off waiting a little bit and saving up to get some KBK's or what Free was talking about. Quality is something you don't really wanna go "halfass" with IMO when your producing music..

He mentioned that he'd be using headphones in class. Quite an honorable usage if you ask me. Besides, headphones are great for fixing reverbs, editing cuts, doing detail work, etc.. Not to mention A/B comparison when mixing/mastering for an audience that will be using headphones as their main listening medium.
Yea, produce and mix the music on monitors... but headphones definitely have their place.

have you looked at 2nd hand websites? audio equipment is very long lasting equipment if treated with care.

If you don't mind 2nd hand buying you could Look into KRK, and there was this other brand i enjoyed the sound of but i can't come up with the name, will post if i remember it(don't got time for research now)

Wasn't implying headphones are useless lol, but if it were me, i woulden't do detailed work with headphones, even if it's going to be YOUR listening medium. a nice set of monitors can better detect anything over a set of headphones. But as he stated (which i missed when reading his post) they're for a uni class, so i'm guessing it's nothing TOO serious.

The headphones will be mostly for stuff we mix in class, there are headphones there but they're pretty toilet.

The monitors will be for light mixing at mine, I'll use the uni mixing rooms for finishing everything off, ideally I'd do it all in there, but they're quite often a pain to book, as everyone else is trying to do book them as well.

I may be able to stretch to £250 odd, as I forgot about the discount I can get on the mbox, I' just not too sure how I get it, I'll have to talk to my lecturer tomorrow, the digidesign site is a bit confusing for UK residents.
