He mentioned that he'd be using headphones in class. Quite an honorable usage if you ask me. Besides, headphones are great for fixing reverbs, editing cuts, doing detail work, etc.. Not to mention A/B comparison when mixing/mastering for an audience that will be using headphones as their main listening medium.
Yea, produce and mix the music on monitors... but headphones definitely have their place.
