What do you guys think is a good set of headphones with strong bass for preferably $50 or under? I was looking at Sennheiser HDs and they didn't look bad but the Sony Extra Bass Headphones look good too.

Hey guys,

so on occasions, I dj for parties like private functions, birthdays...etc.
I'm using a simplistic djing system (I'm not that pro to be buying expensive dj equipment) called M-Audio. So far, I like djing so I would like to get better headphones... what do you all think of the Dr. Dre Headphones and the Bose Headphones? Which is better?

I have a pair. Not mind-blowing, but for being as cheap as they are, no complaints. Definitely good enough to do justice to most music.

Here's the catch. Because of their "extra bass" nature, the less reliant the music is on bass, the worse the headphones are. Electronic stuff sounds great on them. Bassy rock sounds good on them. If the bass is following the guitar, it's a little too much. Granted, now that I think of it, most of the bands I listen to have important basslines (I get pissed when I hear bass following the guitar on the radio), so this usually isn't a problem for me. If it will be for you, think twice. If not, go for it!

Sorry I missed this, in case you or anyone else is lurking / reading through the thread.

I strongly recommend against a modular cord jack design. I have a SteelSeries 7h headset. It's sold as a gaming headset and designed for travel. One of the 'features' was that it used a micro-USB connection to hook up the cable to the headset. I've had SO MANY problems with the sound cutting out if I tried adjusting the headset, or if I moved too drastically (like quickly glancing to the side would do it).

There are probably better options for that connection style out there, but for me, I'd rather avoid the possibility of the hassle entirely. I will NEVER get a headset that uses a similar design again. Nor will I ever spend more money on any SteelSeries audio gear (their mechanical keyboards look nice though).

The Bullet

Out of the two, everyone here is going to tell you that Bose headphones are better, because they are. The way I see it, it goes something like this.

Bose

General sound quality: makes ****ty MP3 compression sound live. Amazing.
The catch: Meant for high volume (as in, they're not as good at playing music softly, but for DJing that shouldn't be a problem), and sometimes lyrics/vocals aren't the clearest.

Beats by Dre

General sound quality: About as good as any other pair of headphones over $150, but not that much better.
The catch: The same problems as the Bosephones with one more: WAY TOO MUCH BASS!!!

For mixing AKG K 512 are good, but it is better to mix on the proper speakers. For recording or live Shure SE315.

I have Sennheiser HD-25 and Sennheiser HD-25 SP. The former are slightly clearer and the latter are bassy as ****, which I didn't notice until I got my HD-25's.

Rocking my cheap-o Sennheiser HD201s right now. They're passable, (NOT a fan of how thin the midrange sounds when there's a lot going on) but I'm waiting for Christmas to be over so I can get my AKG Q701 Quincy Jones 'phones.

Whenever I see that someone else uses Sennheiser headphones I do this in my head - Cool.

You can get different coloured bands and cups etc.
