What exactly is a typing synth? I know what a synth is, but I don't see where typing comes into play. I'm obviously misunderstanding something here. If you clarify, I may be able to help.

its where your computer keyboard acts as a synth keyboard/MIDI for certain programs.

Pretty sure there are versions of Garageband for PC floating around aren't there? 'Cause I use Garageband (on a mac though) and I find it really is the best for typing instruments.

Most soft-synths let you audition notes on the keyboard, bro.
"typing notes" isn't a specific functionality designed for a specific synth...
You can control soft-synths in a variety of ways, but using your keyboard is like the bare minimum in terms of playability.

Why don't you just get a USB midi keyboard? They're cheap, and would be a hell of a lot easier (not to mention more natural) to play than sitting there trying to hit the small keys on a QWERTY.

This one:
Behringer Ucontrol

It's $99, which is as cheap as they get.
It gives you 25 keys (with octave switching), 10 programmable controls (which will allow you to map out particular controls you frequently use on your synth, like cutoff, etc), 8 programmable buttons to switch between setups for inter-synth use, plus 50 virtual instruments to add to your collection.

Honestly, this is a good bargain. You'll be able to have tactile control of your virtual synths, plus add the 50 that comes with the keyboard, you'll have everything you need for recording or performing live.
