Speakers Help!

alright, well let me give you a run down, im saving up for some electronic drums, i have an acoustic kit, (ludwig), but man electronic drums really are fun :). anyways, so im creating a music room in my basement, as iw as moving things around, i noticed 5 or 6 speakers, they were about 3-4ft tall. now i havnt seen these since i was like 4(im 16 now), and i have no idea if they work, i talked to my friend, and he said i need to buy an amp to plug them into 1st. now if i wanted to use the speakers for the electronic drum kit, do i still need the amp?

Yes, you will still need the amp. Electronic kits, in most if not all cases (none that I've seen) do not have speaker outs. You need something to power the speakers, and you will also need a way to get the sound from the kit to the speakers. You could potentially use a stereo receiver if your kit has RCA outs, or you could buy a cable that goes from 1/4in or 1/8in (the two most likely output sizes on your kit) to RCA L/R

Ganja, what kind of cable is connected to the speakers? Is it straight stereo wire or RCA?
Just wondering.

Since the speakers are that old, check the subwoofers make sure the rubber/foam that holds the cone to the outer metal wall is not rotten, or if you turn on the bass you will blast the wall out and that's it with the speakers. In that case actually the speakers are already doomed.

You might have to get 2 new subs somewhere (maybe craigslist) dump them in there.
@ the same maybe replace the cross over inside for some improved quality... i did when i was around 16.

^You can get speakers refoamed for a helluva lot less than buying new ones.
