Don't know what this instrument is.

I was watching t.v in the morning on Bravo and this musical kind of duet was going on. This woman was playing this asian looking kind of rectangular/sqaure stringed instrument (similiar to an acoustic guitar), the sound of the instrument was orgasmic and I have no idea what it was called or any other related instruments, could you please help give some suggestions and maybe links as to what it may be? Sorry if I did not provide enough information.

Was it an autoharp maybe? They look like this:

might be a koto or a shamisen.

they're both boxy stringed instruments but the koto has more in common with a harp while the shamisen is closer to a banjo.

although i wouldn't use the word orgasmic to describe either hahaha

I think i might be a bit of a schizophrenic when it comes to music because it was only last week that I was obsessed with hardcore punk :P and all of a sudden I intensely love traditional Chinese music (I discovered it was a Chinese instrument) gonna look up the instruments you recommended tomorrow.

They have something similar in Latvia but i don't know what it's called. Called "kokle' in Latvian though.
