Sound Forge vs Audacity
 

So I already have Sound Forge. I figure that because you have to pay for Sound Forge, it might be better. But I've been seeing really high ratings for Audacity which is free.

I'm recording a CD and I need easy mixing. Which is better?

Should I stick with SF because I already know how to work most of it? Or is Audacity that much better than SF that it's worth trying out?

Or is there a better and easier program than either of these that is also free?

Use what you have, man. Audacity IS free, and it wouldn't hurt to download it, but if SoundForge is your software of choice, the best thing for you to do is maximise both your knowledge of and skill with it- looking for a solution in some other software- unless what you have simply doesn't perform the functions you need-is an endless circle. Become an expert w/ SF. You'll feel and work much better.

Well if I were you I would probably just look around the internet until I stumbled on a copy of Sonar Producer that was at a verryy low price. ;) That would fit your needs and money issues.

I've heard Sonar is very good.
Soundforge is definately better for mixing, and Audacity is actually a very powerful tool to be free.
And I don't believe you can assign inputs from a recording mixer on Audacity.
There are some things that I can do with Audacity, that I can't figure out how to do with Cubase LE4. (Which, is a pretty expensive piece of software.)
