Smile New here, need info on what to buy

Hello,

i'm a media artist and i do all my own audio for sculpture, installations, performance pieces and video. i don't really do "music" per se... but sometimes i use music others create. i have not been out of school very long and i am going to be creating a new work for a film screening happening in January.

i need to know what sorts of sound equipment would be the best to get on a low budget, and in what priority. i have experience with Protools, and i have an iMac... now, i have been told that Qbase is better, but i have no idea and do not want to purchase it to discover that i don't like it.

so... starting from scratch and needing stuff to record mostly analog sound devices... what should i get?

thanks for your help
