8 track recorders (1996)

I am looking to purchase an 8 track recorder. I have seen the tascam and the boss br 600. What is the best option for either of these or something even better?

are you looking to go with a hard disk? a zip drive? a tape? back in 1996 I owned a tascam 464 (4 track) and it was awesome.. mainly because it had sweepable mids
