Inherited a Turntable...
Yeah - so basically - my step dad gave me this vintage technics sl-d20 turntable and I want to listen to some records I also inherited. I know absolutely nothing about what I need to do this. I think I am in need of some sort of amplifier and a receiver - any help?

Hi Crowe, very simply put you need a preamp or amplifier(receiver) with a phono stage on the front panel. The output signal of the cartridge from your turntable needs to be boosted to a higher level and that's what the phono stage does. Check out e-bay's electronics listings,,,just look around at some of the older models and get an idea of what you need and how much you want to spend. Call around your local area or visit some pawn shops and see what they have to offer, you can find some really good deals with a little shopping around. Garage sales are good too, sometimes some really good equipment for a great price. I will add that you need a decent cartridge/stylus to fully enjoy vinyl, they are critical to the overall performance, there are still some great cartridges available from some very good suppliers you can find online. Hope this helps you out.
