Need help, Equipment opinions (singer, guitar, Synthesizer, Computer)

Hey, I am looking to build a system at home for writing and producing music. I want a synthesizer, Keyboard, and computer system that will allow me to do all of this. My price range is flexible but I really want to get started. I have heard and seen the program Fruity Loops and it seems quite comprehensive but if there are better that will not only arrange parts and edit parts I'm up for hearing about it. I also used virtual studio in a midi class at the community college and it seemed to also be a good program but it was Mac based.

Also are Macs or PC's better for music editing and writing? I need help and advise!!! Thanks!
