ATTN:Recording artists
So yeah, I needa start recording drumming, and I'm just wondering what yu guys do. Do you use a mic on each drum, or just one infront of the whole kit. Which ones better?
Kthx. |
you should try to use 4 mic's, 57 for the snare and use a AKG D112, but you need to read up on stereo pair recording
|
Thanks, I was looking through a whole bunch of mics, and I found a drum pack which looks good which is why I'm asking. My band wants to invest into a recording deck and we all need to get mics. (Unluckily for me, I play drums)

i would just rent a set its pretty cheap
|
search "micing(sp??) a drum" on YouTube...
saw a great video once, explained how to mic it up...seemed good to me...my drummer liked it |

Hear is how I mic up drums. Two overhead mics for cymbales (usually a pair of pencil condencer mics like AKG KM184) One mic above snare and one mic below. Sure sm57 will do One mic for High hat One mic for each tom (sennheiser usually) Buy Sennheiser e604 Drum Microphone 3-Pack online at Musician's Friend One for bass drum D112 inside the bass drum and one on the outside too (each spot has a different sound) So i guess in total that is 10 mics. |
Well if your professionally doing it then i would recomend buying a electronic set. I know its a lot different but if your not doing shows and whatnot it makes life MUCH easier when recording and adding different effects.

All I have to say is D112 for kicks!!
