Bass Equaliser Pedals (bass, Polish, amps, effects, goth)

Hmm.

I have a 15 watt Marshall MG15 CDR.. and I guess it's a pretty crappy amp due to the fact that it is solid-state (but i still love it).

My gear consists of an Epiphone SG, a Fender Muddy Waters Tele and a couple of lame acoustics.

For those who seriously want to get a good tone out of a crappy amp (solid-state amps with powers of 30 watts and less) I can recommend investing in a cheap bass EQ pedal.

Since the bass EQ allows the increment in bass frequencies and the sculpting of treble and mid-tones, I am able to get a fairly close angus young-sounding tone from my cheap-ass Epiphone SG, and i can get very nice Jimmy page-esque tele sounds with my Fender MW telecaster.

Apart from increasing the bass frequencies, the pedal cleans up your sound, so rhythm buffs, you can finally get that Malcolm Young tone! You don't even need to invest in a bass head or noise cancelling pedals.

I might have to add that I use a Boss OD-2 plugged in before the EQ pedal... I tried to use the EQ before the amp overdrive, but that just made a whole lotta hissing sound (a la high-freq hiss heard on low-fi recordings).

He's passing on his words of wisdom about guitar effects, what you can do with a cheap amp combined with a cheap pedal to make it all sound expensive.

By Bass EQ, do you mean an EQ pedal made specifically for use with a bass guitar/amp setup? I suppose that boosts the bass better than a normal guitar EQ does, which maybe improves cheap solid-state acoustics.

yeps! but you can always share what you have done to improve the sound from cheap-assed rigs.

I never managed to get any cheap-assed rigs to sound good. Sorry. Probably because I tried to use rubbish distortion and fuzz pedals with already fuzzy sounding amps... it was going nowhere really.

You can't polish a turd.

Simple advice to remember. Crap in = Crap out.

No matter how hard you try - weak or ****ty tone can't be fixed so just get a better amp & guitar - that is the best way to improve your tone.
