I recently found out that a fellow DG club member has passed away. Someone I played a doubles tournament with once on a whim a few years ago. I just showed up the day of the tournament hoping to get paired up with someone, and I got paired up with Rudy. We had just met and had a blast of a time even though we didn't even come close to placing in the top 5 teams. I think we actually were tied for last. lol He was such a free spirited person with a big heart, but that was the last time I'd ever see or talk to him. He had been missing for 14 months and his body was found last week, and they believe it was self inflicted. He had been suffering from depression and just kind of disappeared. A terrible loss. I wish I could have helped him.

They'll be planting 2 tree's in his honor at one of the courses he frequented.

Danke. There were a couple of us trying to get a good shot of it, and my camera on my phone is really one of the worst cameras on a phone you can get, but I got lucky and it focused a little better than usual. I did miss the mention of it this morning though. I was notified by a phone call from my lady friend who gave me a the hot scoop. At first, I thought someone died, because no one ever calls me at 5:30am unless it's an emergency of sorts.

Day 2 has a few teams jockeying for position so far. The general consensus is that everyone's feet are sore asf after day one though. 4 courses per day will do that. They're all up in Michigan right now. They have to finish all 4 courses up near Ludington, then drive 5 hours to a course on the IN/IL border where they have to play hole 1 by 8pm CST to have an official end time.

I got invited to play a private course this past weekend. A fun 9 hole'er with some tight shots and some long crazy uphill ones. I played fairly decent too, taking 2nd place and then got invited to a small tournament next weekend that utilizes that same course and another separate one down the road at someone else's personally groomed property. The weather looks to be cooperative so it should be a good time. I'll be winding things down soon though, since I'm not a fan of playing in freezing conditions. The old bones get chilled a little quicker these days.

Yesterday, there was a callout to play a quick 5 dollar holler round at a local course by one of the club members. I wasn't gonna play since I had to work up until they were gonna start the round at 3pm or so. I said **** it and left early and went and played anyway and ended up winning all the lunch money. One dude, who's 22, about 280 and can throw a friggin mile and a half was winning up until the last few holes and that's when I started hitting my lines perfectly. I won by one stroke and left with $10 more than I had. I'd have made more money just staying at work but, man it feels good to be a player.

Our DG club lost one of our most revered members recently. One of the truest free spirits I've ever known, and he was one of the founding members some 8 years ago. He moved back and forth from Florida to Illinois and would always just show up out of the blue, and when he did, you knew it was gonna be a fun time. One day, we were watching the South Florida Open Disc Golf tournament and someone points at the screen and shouts: "There's Joey!", and sure enough, there he was scootin along just grooving, and shirtless as usual. lol Always with a joke, a positive word and a smile. I loved that guy.
