But there's presumably beer close by.

Here's a little story about a table that wanted to become a disc golf rack.
I started out cleaning up the clutter in my small garage: Then I decided to put my PA and cabinets that were just sitting around doing nothing to use, so I bought a TV and wfi extender and hooked it all up. Now I can get any stream, music, etc. in my little man-cave. Yay!: But what to do with all those discs? Hmmmm... Aha! I have an old coffee table that was basically flattened by my friend when he 'helped' me move years ago. This thing was literally flat after he tripped on a step and fell, all 250 lbs of him, directly on top of it. I had put it back together with some wood screws, but it's always been kinda rickety: Ok, so let's get to work. Step 1 is planning it all out with some measuring to make sure the discs will seat properly between the board and the dowel rod. Lots of dry fitting and adjusting until I got it right and drew it all up: Then, drill some holes... ...and put it all together: Hmmm... that sagging just isn't right. If I'd have used 1/2" steel rods it would have been fine, but I'm too far into it now to start over. What do I do now? continued in next post...

The little story about a table that wanted to become a disc golf rack continued:
The best direction to take from here is to make a center brace for it, so lets get to it: Patent... lol Ok, that works, but it seems just a bit lacking. I think I'll match the end column pieces and use that same design for a center divider. The original used mortise and tenon joints, but I'm just using some Gorilla Wood Glue and tacking with small screws where possible: Put it all together and then add a few detail touches, like filling a bit of wood imperfections (I grabbed a crappy piece, ooops), and capping off the end screws: It's looking pretty good so far, but I'm still not done. It's gonna need some casters so it can roll around the garage to move it out of the way if necessary: That's where it's at right now. I'll be sanding and prepping for paint over the weekend. The final piece will look like this: Basket Cases (a local disc golf club I belong to) blue with my custom artwork and some accent colors. Not sure about the accent colors though. I also have some 1.5" end caps to order to cover the ends that sandwich the rod. The artwork will be printed off at 15"x20" on heavy paper and glued to the top, then coated with about 7-8 coats of clear coat. I'll be sure to post up finished pics when it's all done next week! The End...?

A few more progress pics:
Casters fitted, thru bolts trimmed, and ready for paint Making sure everything fits, moves, works as planned before paint Accent colors done First coat of blue I'll be heading to the print shop today, then finishing up the paint. I'll need to give it a few days to cure before gluing the artwork in place. After that I'll be applying many, many layers of clear coat and then epoxying the casters in place. I should be done with everything by the end of the week, but it'll take at least a couple of weeks for the clear coat to fully harden enough for everyday use, so it'll just be sitting in a corner until then. Finished pics will be next!
