My niece got a new puppy, a Yorkie named Blue, over the weekend. I'll be meeting him this weekend. He's already taken to flying through the air and is temporarily occupying a big playpen (poor quality video from my phone below).

What a little ball of energy! And thank you!

Was just in here to post up more FPO icons like these two. They are leading the sport right now as far as women's professionals.

This was made over a decade ago, and some of these kind souls have come a long way in the sport since:

What a roller coaster tournament ^ that was. Hole 17 at Waco is an equalizer, but if you're being sponsored with a $10M contract you'd better be able to scramble like this (Shot Of The Day in the link):

I have my first tournament in 2 years coming up this weekend. Oh boy!

Queen Boo 03-14-2022 01:05 PM

Wait... this is actually a real sport?

Every time I saw the title of this thread I thought it was some kind of overelaborate forum inside joke.

Plankton 03-14-2022 01:16 PM

It's an underelaborate outside sport.

Queen Boo 03-14-2022 03:45 PM

Must be super interesting to have a nearly 50 page thread about it.

Do you enjoy walking in the woods, drinking beer, and smoking fat joints? Cause that's 90% of what disc golf is.

Plankton 03-15-2022 04:27 AM

Well that just makes it super duper interesting.

Plankton 03-15-2022 09:25 AM

Realistically, this is what it's all about:

So it's like golf but for cool people is the vibe I'm getting here.

Plankton 03-15-2022 11:41 AM

Your vibe meter is calibrated correctly... until I walk out onto the tee pad and perform my pre-throw routine.

Last night was the... well, last night of putting leagues out at BIBCO. I had been solid all night and needed one last putt to win the Hot Putter prize for the evening after making every single putt up to that point. I lined it up as the crowd behind me went silent knowing this would be it. I threw. It felt like slow motion as my disc sailed through the evening air, thick with anticipation and stale beer. It was headed right for the basket, tracking like an archers arrow, then the realization hit me. It was too high and so was I. It doinked off of the top band and skidded across the floor. Oh well. We won the round and I had a blast. So dam close though.

Spoiler for graphic for dramatic effect:

It's gonna be a hell of a tournament season. My first tournament of many this year is this weekend, and it's a 2 day event. I have early morning tee times, so after my round on Saturday I'll be heading over to the new pro level course to help out a bit, then I'll whisk away to BIBCO for the Putting Leagues wrap-up party. I'm already getting inundated with artwork requests too. The Hyde Park TD was there last night and had my ear pretty much the entire evening talking about how my logo will be presented to some very influential people. Exciting stuff. The Basket Cases head honcho already has me creating stuff for his new home course too, and I've already completed a Players Guide for a tournament to benefit the Will County Humane Society.

I do like to keep busy.

I tied for 7th place this last weekend. Not too bad I guess, but my putting was terrible. Ugh. I need to work on my putz.

I hung out with a friend after my final round yesterday and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the pro's who always have the prime time tee times after the old dudes like me. My friends daughter happens to be a photographer and has covered many major disc golf events, so we got to talking and she had mentioned that she's doing a story on the history of the Illinois State Disc Golf Championships. I mentioned to her that some of my artwork had been used for the 2003 stamped merchandise, which 3 of the discs are now curated at the Flying Disc Museum in Arizona, and she wants to do a small feature on that. Hoo boy.

So, early 1st round on Sat, then the Putting League Wrap-Up Party, then another early tournament round on Sun and more walking than I usually do. I'm pooped, but the band at the Wrap-Up Party was fairly decent. They managed to turn Foghat's Slow Ride into a jam band tune and did quite a few other decent numbers. I also got out to an old Irish bar on Friday to listen to an Irish band that doesn't play Irish music. They did play some Little Feat though, so that was nice. What a weekend. I need another weekend to recover from it.

The Texas State DGC's are under way with the FPO card, but you can't watch it live unless you're subbed to DGN, so here's a practice round at the Thorn course:

I'm currently working with Brian on a course redesign. He's also a HOF'er and here he is being interviewed for the 2010 Pro Worlds DGC which he was the Tournament Director:

I remember getting out to Lemon Lake in the late 90's when it was only one course, maybe two. I just played a round there a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful piece of property out there by Cedar Lake.

Hyde Park DGC held the very first sanctioned disc golf tournament in the city of Chicago yesterday and I was there to be a part of that history. It was a beautiful day for disc golfing with temps around 60 deg F and sunny. Here's some pics:

Sharing the property with the Jackson Park Golf Club. The fairways for their hole 1 (left) and our hole 4 (right of the tree's) run parallel then break off. A really well thought out course design:

Have you considered throwing your disc around the golf course to interrupt their games?

I considered it after one guy yelled over at us to let us know that "You know thats not real golf, right" as I rolled my eyes and responded: "Oh we know".

I was watching the Dynamic Discs Open last weekend and the players get to choose their walk-on/announcement music for the hole 1 tee-off. Check out Ricky's choice. lol

I played a random doubles league yesterday and got paired up with a youngster who just started throwing 5 months ago. He can bomb (throw a disc real far). We took first place and had our pic taken for this weeks results post on the group page. I gave him the $$ since he earned it. What a fun night.

The Batlord 05-12-2022 06:49 PM

One of the best parts of disc golf is definitely the veteran players who are supportive of new players. I got so many discs off older dudes who just wanted me to have discs to throw, or in-depth workshops on the basics of throwing. I think I only got into disc golf cause some old guy saw me and a friend smoking weed at a disc golf course cause it was a safe place to get high and he just gave us each a disc.

Plankton 05-13-2022 07:28 AM

That was you? lol

Yessir, I've met quite a few outstanding humans on the course.

Plankton 05-17-2022 05:36 AM
