Chelsea > Bournemouth
Liverpool > Leicester

Confident for these ones. I can see Tottenham lacking cojones tonight vs Watford so I'm not touching that one.

Saints vs Palace could go either way. Both as bad as each other.

I'll pencil them in homie  Again, PLEASE post the date of the matches along with your predictions! It's not much to ask, and I have said it NUMEROUS times! Also, post if they are a part of a tournamennt or anything. I'm trying to make this thing as LEGIT as possible! I know virtually NOTHING about the picks you are making, so I am pretty much flying blind here :p: I'm putting effort into this thread, so please do the same!

Cuthbert 01-30-2019 11:21 AM

Sorry sorry.

The date is today, the matches are tonight. I always post on the day.

I'll remember for next time.

[MERIT] 01-30-2019 11:31 AM

Akai, Key, Mindfulness, Neapolitan & WWWP, start making some more sports predictions!

If you ALWAYS post on the day of the event, then it's no worries bro. No need to post the date

I take it your predictions flopped?

EDIT: Per the website you gave me to keep track of your scores, it looks like you went 0/2. Gonna pencil that in. Let me know if I'm wrong!

I'm throwing in that the Pats will lose the superbowl. Hopefully.

OccultHawk 02-01-2019 11:43 AM

Merit how would you feel about a mini game in the thread

Me vs you plus whoever else wants to play? I’ll hold off explaining unless you wanna play

Damn you made a lot of fight picks

Are you familiar with that many fighters?

Did you ever see the movie “Chuck” about the real Rocky?

Another Q do consider Vladimir klitschko a top ten heavyweight of all time?

Yes they flopped. Such fine margins in football.

Cuthbert 02-02-2019 11:53 AM

Congratulations to England, who just smashed Ireland at the Aviva.

Enjoyed that. England were good.

[MERIT] 02-02-2019 11:54 AM

I went 3/5 on my LFA 59 picks. UFC on ESPN+ 2 is later tonight.

I'm down for mini-games. Not sure that I'll participate personally until I hear what it is though.

I follow as many promotions as I can. If I'm not familiar with fighters, I research them [record, style, recent performances, etc.]. I usually make it a rule to not make picks for fights that involve debuting opponents, but I made an exception for the Kron Gracie fight.

Never saw "Chuck."

Vladimir Klitschko is definitely top-10 as far as current heavyweight boxers go. I'd have to think on it, but tentatively, I would say yes.

OccultHawk 02-02-2019 12:52 PM

I was thinking a confidence game

One person picks 5 NBA games and you pick the winners with increasing “confidence” so the game you assign the most confidence is worth 5 pts and the least 1 point

It has to be the same five games for everyone

This doesn't really play into the "1 point per pick" theme of the thread. Trying to keep things as simple as possible.

That being said, I'd be more than happy to create a section in the main post and title it something like "OccultHawk's Corner" or "The OccultHawk Challenge" and have those picks and points be separate from the main part. Whatcha think?

OccultHawk 02-02-2019 02:31 PM

Let’s just play one on one. Is it bothersome to make picks for this game that don’t count toward your score counter? It is, isn’t it? Sigh. I get it though. It’s sort of disruptive but it’s just a mini game. I mean if I start making NBA picks it’s like to easy to just cherry pick games. Not that... oh well ///tears

Okay, I'm game.

And if you can cherry-pick, then do it!

OccultHawk 02-02-2019 09:00 PM

Wed Wizards Vs Bucks
Thurs Raptors Vs Hawks
Fri Nuggets Vs 76ers
Sat (2/9) Spurs Vs Jazz
Sat (2/9) Pelicans Vs Grizzles

It’s actually advantageous to go second. Since I picked the games I’ll pick first sometime tomorrow. Then you’ll have up until tip off of the first game. If you want to pick first go ahead. I’ll probably do it around noon tomorrow.

[MERIT] 02-02-2019 10:58 PM

I went 4/10 on tonight's UFC picks. FML.

I don't follow the NBA very closely, so I'm going to have to go with whatever information I find online. Judge me accordingly LOL. And I want to get your old ass into some MMA!

CONFIDENCE PICKS:

1) Bucks > Wizards [February 6, 2019]
-- Worth 5 points

2) Raptors > Hawks [February 7, 2019]
-- Worth 4 points

3) Jazz > Spurs [February 9, 2019]
-- Worth 3 points

4) 76ers > Nuggets [February 8, 2019]
-- Worth 2 points

5) Pelicans > Grizzlies [February 9, 2019]
-- Worth 1 point

And we can just add these points to our regular totals. No reason to not mix it up from time to time
Let me know if I did it correctly.

I'll pencil in your picks. So, we get the allotted number of points for each correct guess, right? We don't have to get all 5 correct to win points? And we both win points, or just whoever has the higher score?

I did your NBA thing, now you have to do some MMA picks. We have a couple of UFCs and Bellators this month. You down? We can do the confidence picks or just pick winners in general.

OccultHawk 02-04-2019 03:44 PM

I like the UFC but it’s hard to stay invested through a PPV model

I used to watch Ultimate Fighter. Is that still on? The last fight I really got into was when Anderson Silva shattered his leg.

I’ll play a return round of confidence with UFC fights though. If they’re televised all the better. ESPN fights on boxing as well. I’m looking for an excuse to get back into boxing. I used to be real into it, history and stuff too but it’s been out of my head for a while.

I’m not very interested in MMA that’s not UFC. Not saying it’s not good. Just UFC is kind of it for me.

The Ultimate Fighter is still on, but it's only available on the UFC Fight Pass. Fight Pass is a subscription-based streaming service like the WWE Network, except that unlike the WWE, the UFC doesn't offer their live PPVs as a part of it. They get added a month later. But you can watch other promotions' live events, as well as old fights from the UFC and other promotions.

There is this new streaming service called DAZN that offers live sports. Right now, UFC PPVs aren't included as a part of it in the U.S., but Bellator and Golden Boy are.
How about some confidence picks for UFC 234 on the 9th? Since you don't follow it, we can just do the 2 big fights and 1 curve ball:

► Anderson Silva vs Israel Adesanya

► Kelvin Gastelum vs Robert Whittaker

► Jim Crute vs Sam Alvey

Also, I dedicated a section in the main post to "The OccultHawk Challenge." For the mini-games, each correct guess will count as a 1/1 in the main tally and the confidence points will determine the leader in the OccultHawk Challenge. Separate but equal  LMAO

My UFC confidence picks:

1) Israel Adesanya > Anderson Silva
--- Worth 3 points

2) Robert Whittaker > Kelvin Gastelum
--- Worth 2 points

3) Jim Crute > Sam Alvey
--- Worth 1 point

They are just too greedy! They had a wonderful deal with FOX, which is broadcast TV and reaches both those who have cable/satellite and those who don't. So they reached a much wider audience than they did when they were on SpikeTV [which is now called "The Paramount Network"]. But the UFC wanted too much money and FOX refused, so they moved to ESPN now. The amount of money that the UFC owners make compared to what the fighters make is insane. Plus, they don't provide insurance or health care for their fighters.

On a different note, I am stoked that WWE will be coming back to broadcast television. SmackDown is scheduled to premier on FOX in October.

The Batlord 02-04-2019 04:36 PM

No health insurance to people beating the **** out of each other? That's criminal.

They view them as independent contractors, so they think they don't have to provide benefits. Yet, the UFC struck a sponsorship deal with Reebok, and the UFC forced all of the fighters to stop wearing gear from their sponsors and said that they can ONLY wear Reebok gear. This caused many of the sponsors to drop their investment in the fighters, and the fighters lost money.

So, they are independent contractors, yet the UFC can tell them what they have to wear? That doesn't jive.

OccultHawk 02-04-2019 06:12 PM

► Anderson Silva 3

► Whittaker 2

► Jim Crute 1

So for our game the Anderson fight is all that matters
