If you think either of them are boring you do not understand good standup fighting to any degree. Valentina is quite possibly the best female striker ever. Both of them have such accomplished backgrounds and are so skillfull what did you want a blind brawl?

He definitely is. However on the ground he doesnt come close to Ortega. It is simply impossible to be that good at both things, just not enough time in a day. His takedown defense though was top notch and he clearly attend the Derrick Lewis school of just stand the **** up.

Watching the evolution of fighting is truly incredible to me. Its just like video games imho. Take for instance DOTA2 (idk if you are familiar), a game in which the meta changes monthly depending on the updates and players strategies. So basically you could be crushing it and never lose and one day that all changes and you suddenly are losing to a particular style of play.

This is like in 93 when BJJ was clearly the #1 fighting style in a sport of 1v1 styles. As the sport has progressed we realized that as the general talent pool grows wrestling is truly the top dog. It gives you the ability to chose where the fight takes place. So even if you are a world class bjj practitioner, or a world class striker it wont matter if your opponent doesnt let you function in your area of expertise.

Of coarse this is the current meta, and while I dont see if changing drastically any time soon who knows. I enjoy fighting so much because I like seeing what works. THe rules definitely affect this however. In a perfect world no rounds, no gloves, kicks to down opponents, and hellbows are all allowed. However the sport will never improve and grow without being able to be seen by a mainstream audience on tv.

All in all I would not say that grappling or striking is better than the other. The ability to force the fight up or down is truly where the power is. It allows you to chose the skillsets needed for a fight. This is why we saw Rousey take such a nosedive.

Jones without a doubt. He won last time after partying and snorting coke while admittedly not taking it serious. Gustaf is amazing but JJ is possibly the best ever to do it. Yea he sure ****s up alot, and is debatedly a pathological liar but ****, if he isnt talented.

There is no aspect of fighting Gus is better, maybe equal but not better.

Think it's been his best rivalry in terms of stats considering how close gus is to jones' style in terms of frame and technique

Hope gus gets him on the cards this time

The 12-to-6 elbow rule is utter bullshit and probably the stupidest regulation ever implemented. I disagree about the no-gloves thing, though. It's easy as fuck to mess up your hand and wrist whilst throwing a punch. When I competed, I always used as much tape and gauze as I could get away with! I agree with the no-rounds concept, as well. A fight is a fight, let it play out! I am also in favor of an ABSOLUTE division in MMA, similar to BJJ, where fighters, regardless of size, can fight one another.

The ability to dictate how the fight unfolds is definitely a huge key to victory, regardless of fighting style. Rousey had too many people telling her that her that her shit don't stank.

I WANT Gustafsson to win, because Jones is such an egomaniac asshole, but I don't see it happening. I think it will go the distance and see Jones get the W.

Thats what changes the fight to the strikers advantage in a way that doesnt happen in the real world though. In an actual fight you throw a bomb at someone and dont knock them out you have a very real risk of breaking your hand, which will probably **** your chances of finishing that fight successfully. Without gloves fighters are not suffering huge amount of brain damage due to the puncher being able to continuously throw without nearly as much fear of breaking bones.
Id rather some people break their hands because they threw a punch rather than everyone get brain damage. I mean look at boxers, they non stop get punched in the hed with big 16 oz gloves. They have more brain damage than anyone.

Well, MMA has evolved from just trying to figure out which style reigns supreme, to a year-round sport. When you're a professional fighter paying $20,000 for a 6-month training camp and a fight can get canceled for a broken hand, leaving you unable to provide for your family, you'll thank your lucky stars for some nice gloves.

I get what you're saying about how it can change the dynamic of a fight, but that's what differentiates it from being human cockfighting.

You also said earlier that you wanted to change the rules about kicks to a downed opponent. I'm assuming that you were referring to head kicks? That could cause some serious brain damage as well. I cringe just thinking about the soccer kicks and head stomps that some organizations allow[ed].

If I ran my own MMA promotion, here's some things I would change:

- Champions cannot fight outside of their weight division. As a champion, their duty and loyalty should be to that division, and that division only.

- Do away with rounds; just fights with time limits. Say, 20 minutes for regular fights and 30 minutes for title fights and main events.

- Bring back the referee cam [best seat in the house!].

- Bring back 1-night tournaments [maybe once or twice a year].

- Let the fighters unionize.

- No kicks to the head of a downed opponent, but you can 12-to-6 elbow all fucking day if you want.

- Have an amateur MMA promotion under the same banner to serve as a breeding ground for home-grown talent.
