If an end result of 2-1 is a draw, the I understand even less about this sport than I thought I did

The match was a draw after the standard 90 mins plus whatever was added on. At that point, someone had to win, so extra time was added, 15 mins per half. After that, the score was 2-1. If the score had been 1-1 or 2-2, then the match would have been a draw after extra time and gone to penalties.

It wasn't 2-1. It was 2-1 aet. There is a difference.
