Thanks for the explanation, Hawk. Never heard that one before.
As for Messi, it's not quite that he was ****, but everyone else around him was. There was a comment made by our guys in the after-match analysis that said basically "Messi likes to be tricky, confuse the opposition. He likes to feint. But there's no point in feinting if there's no-one there to feint to." And it's true. You can't carry a whole team on your back. Even Ronaldo, who may have seemed to have done it with Portugal, had some decent backup from his team-mates. Messi was one man trying to play against eleven. Not gonna happen. I bet he's really in the dumps now though. No matter how it plays, the press are going to crucify him and he'll be blamed for everything, which is really unfair.

Saying he ain’t the GOAT ain’t a crucifixion
We go through this with LeBron every ****ing year It’s a tribute to Messi that he’s in a conversation for top whatever but for people to call you the GOAT you have to do the impossible Quote:

It's a team sport. Portugal won the Euros because they had a team who can defend and were organised. Have you looked at the teams Pele played in? '58 & '62 the Golden Ball (best player) awards were won by Didi and Garrincha (two of his Brazilian team mates), in fact Pele played one game in '62 then was injured in the second group game and didn't play again yet Brazil still won the WC. Pele did win the Golden Ball in 1970, but the 1970s side is considered by many to be the best international team of all time. Croatia are a good team. I said that before the game.
Messi has done the impossible anyway. People win the World Cup every four years but if you had said to someone 'a guy in Europe's top leagues will score 73 goals in a season' ten years ago, they'd have said 'that doesn't happen any more, silly numbers like that only happened in the 40s and 50s, the game is too good now'. |
