Running Thread

Do any of you run?

I took it up in September and it has been really enjoyable / beneficial for me.

I'm averaging about 30 miles per week, and I'm trying to slowly increase this number.

My town is uber-flat, but I have some nice trails about 30 minutes away in Brown County State Park. I try to get out there at least once a week. If I could, all of my miles would be on the trails (hoping to make that real in 2017 by moving west).

I plan on running my first road marathon and then probably a trail 50K at some point this year. I know of a trail race 5/13, but I'm not sure I'll be quite ready for the distance by then.

I post all of my runs to Strava.

I know at least bob runs too. Who else?

I don't, but I'd like to start. I've heard that the "couch to 5k" program is good; would you agree? (if you've heard of it) All my attempts at running regularly have been miserable so far, even with with the help of Neubauten and Swans.

..Although, I'm not sure if running is necessarily better than jump-roping intervals if your overall goal is just getting some cardio into your day and over with. (But I understand running can provide a lot of stress-relief, so there is that.)

I've tried it several times, but just couldn't get into it.
I just prefer shorter high intensity workouts to the cardio stuff. I might try again this year though. Might just take up swimming again, since there's a lake near where I moved and I love swimming and am pretty good at it.

C25K is definitely a great way to start out, that's what I did for the first few weeks or so.

The #1 thing new runners seem to mess up is going out too hard (or training too much). You shouldn't expect yourself to run X distance all the way through, walking breaks are a must.

That's great! Keep up the hard work.

I workout five times a week, and I do some sort of cardio (typically running) after each workout. Lately it's been about a mile to two miles of hard running per workout. After that I switch to a quick, but gruesome ab workout. Lately I've been running on the treadmill at the gym, but once summer kicks in full swing, I'll switch to outside. ****, it honestly already feels like summer to be honest.

I used to jog.. At my peak I was doing 3 miles in 35-40 minutes or so. I might try this app, sounds cool and I kind of miss running.

Have you ever tried those hipster running shoes that are basically rubber and some string? My friend has a pair and swears by them.

Kinda like these but with a thinner sole I think:
