Here I am training to improve my time for a 10k run in the city. I think that running in a race, whether 5k, 10k, 21k , or
Marathon is wonderful. Parts of the city close down for the race, the atmosphere is full of positive energy, and when You get close to the end, people are cheering, and it just makes you want to go faster. Plus it is a blast to drink that cup of water on the run and throw it down on the ground. The one I am doing is part trail, part asphalt and winds by some of the museums and the water. Pretty run. And you get a free goody bag for doing it and a medal. Going to be a blast and only a month left! |
found out the track i run on after hooping is only .25 mile long, so 6 laps is only 1.5 miles but thats fine with me. i ran 9 a few times but im already drained after basketball, so any running after the hour of hooping seems like forever
i never tried just running and no basketball, but id maybe try to do the 12 laps=3 miles next. and then maybe hoop after,ahhhhhh....thatd fck with my brain big time. |
I got a new pair of running shoes this week. Sacony ride. Great neutral shoe. Like running on a mattress. Highly recommend them. Although my chiropractor says that you can run in everything, flip flops even, and it is best to run barefoot. Your shoe should be twistable and not contain any gels or "any NASA ****"since this make the shoe stiff and heavy. And get your technique analyzed so that you are not running more on the inside soles of your feet.Your technique can affect your spine.

I would like to start to get some cardio in. Winter is just on the horizon though? Any tips?

I love running in the winter. You just need to dress for the situation.
Do you have running shoes? Simple winter running gear: long running tights, a beanie, cheap cotton gloves. For up top a long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt is usually enough. However, you may live in Canada or something real harsh. I have a second pair of really heavy duty wool gloves that I bust out under 20F (with cheap gloves under). Also, I have a long sleeved tight tech shirt for similar situations. Beyond that, a google search will probably sort you for what to look out for winter running gear. I find that the first mile or so can be tough to get through if it's super cold and windy. After I'm warmed up it's usually all good in terms of dealing with it. Also: don't fall. |
Just put dubs in some old, comfortable running shoes (dubs are smal metal spikes for walking in icy areas).
If you live in Europe (or even now in the US..at least I heard they have started opening up in the DC area), go to LIDL for some decent, cheap winter running gear. They usually start advertising around October/November. I have never had a problem with their products and you can shop at the same time. Just get a thermal, sweat wicking long sleeved shirt, a thin running jacket, and some good thermal, sweat wicking pants. Also some good running socks (long for the winter). If you live in a place that gets really dark in the mornings/night (here we only have sunlight from about 9-1400 during December), get some good reflectors and a headlamp if needed. Just go out and have fun. |
I just joined a gym instead. Where I am winter temps get to -20 and can go as low as -40

Here it gets pretty cold as well (Sweden isn't known for its warm winters). Supposedly it will be an extremely cold winter Europe-wide this year. But the scenery is pretty in the winter.
