They used to be based in a part of Amsterdam that has a lot of Jewish people living there. Lots of Jews in Amsterdam around the time of WW2. Fans flying Israel flags. Fans responding to antisemitism with 'Super Jews'.

Tottenham are similar. They call themselves Yids. Lots of Jewish fans.

Soccer is weirdly tribalistic. I've never even heard of an American sports team being associated with any religion.

Rangers FC are a protestant club.

There are also clubs associated with terrorist groups (Celtic, also a Catholic club) and neo Nazi organisations (Chelsea).
