Scholes wasn't as good as Lampard or Gerrard either. i would probably get castrated for saying that, but it's true. he was an amazing player, but they did more for their teams IMO and if I'm going into a big game, I'd take either of them first.

Scholes attracts the football hipsters. Also he went from being underrated earlier on to overrated because he played well into his 30s. Same with Pirlo and then Totti.

totally agree. much like Pirlo and Totti his play style is often regarded as underrated as he was a great passer, leader, and stepped up when the team needed him. he was never a goal scorer or show stealer. but once you get recognition for that kind of stuff, people won't stop sucking you off.

Kante is going in that direction imo, he's a phenomenal player but like, he's had 2 great seasons (this could be 3, we'll see) and people are already talking about him being the best in the world.

Modric is the best midfielder in the world btw.

The thing that annoyed me about Scholes was that he got a pass for being a dirty player. Guy would slide in with dangerous tackles quite often and it would be laughed off as if it was little Scholesy down the park and you're ruffling his hair.

Gerrard and Lampard were obviously better players than Scholes, but he's easily the third best English CM after those two. Massive drop off after those three.

Rate him higher than Pirlo personally because of the goals.
