Villa were the first to use claret and blue btw, and cos they were the biggest club at the time lots of clubs copied it. Even Trabzonspor in Turkey. |

i moreso meant the most popular combination 'cos obviously there's a ton of white kits for example. i like the colors but i think having so many teams using it at once ruins it a bit. i remember back in 13 or 14 when Villa had those bright green kits. really liked them personally.

![]() Barcelona have loads of luminous kits, probably some psychology goes into them as well. I wonder how many people think Villa copied West Ham's colours. |

benteke always goes in versus Liverpool, even now at Palace.
i think the Hammers position over the last few years vs Villa's has probably made them more relevant to new fans but anyone who knows the history of English football will presumably associate Villa with the most historic clubs.

Rooney's international career summed up by the Monkey:
2004 - Great tournament, exceeded expectations, had Rio not missed his drug test and Rooney avoided the injury vs Portugal we would have won this competition in my opinion. 8.5/10 2006 - He gets a pass here because he came into the tournament off the back of the metatarsal injury. Did not score. Sent off for a silly stamp/push but players are allowed to make mistakes. 4/10. 2008 - Failed to even qualify, he has to take some of the blame as one of the players but not really down to him this one, it was the manager's fault. Can't rate this one. 2010 - Off the back of the greatest season of his career and really stepped up after Ronaldo had left for Real Madrid. Whether the cortisone injections and off field shenanigans affected his fitness or not, this was an appalling tournament and had he not had a go at the fans after the Algeria game I wouldn't have even known he played in it. 0/10. 2012 - Does not get a pass here as he was banned for three matches initially for kicking an opponent away in Montenegro in the qualifiers, reduced to two on appeal, so he started the last group match. His contributions here included a tap in header vs Ukraine in the final group match (1-0 win), a scored penalty in the knockout and a failed overhead kick right at the end of normal time vs Italy. 4/10. 2014 - According to him if he failed again to really make a mark here he would have nobody to blame but himself. Provided a decent assist for Sturridge vs Italy (lost 2-1) and scored a tap in vs Uruguay (lost 2-1). Out in the group stages and I can't even remember what happened in the Costa Rica match. I am giving him an average score here because a goal and an assist is about right for the number of games played and I wouldn't really say this poor performance was his fault entirely. 5/10. 2016 - Scored a penalty vs Iceland. Didn't do anything else. Probably England's worst ever result in our 150 year history. 1/10. So those are my thoughts on Wazza's international record. Average rating: 3.75/10. Anyone disagree or have anything to add? |
