Or a goalscorer?
![]() Job of a striker is to score the goals, Messi and Ronaldo score the most goals but Messi does everything else you named to a world class level as well. Ronaldo is still amazing but is on the decline and I would take Suarez over him now. |

i think you misunderstood my post. actually, maybe my wording was wrong, apologies.
what i mean is that different people might see more value in a different type of striker. i'm guessing goofle's argument for Costa being the best is that when he's in form and playing with the right mindset, he can muscle just about any defender in the league off of the ball. he has a great sense of attacking position and seems to always be able to read the play and drift into the right spot. whereas i would argue someone like auba is better on the grounds that he might not be as talented at actually shooting the ball, but he'll still give you more goals because of how fast he is and how he manages to find the tap ins and through balls. i want a striker who will score consistently, regardless of how he does it. it can be ugly as all **** if it needs to be. just ****ing score. create goals. who the best current striker is kinda just semantics me thinks. also messi shouldn't really count since he plays on the wing, ronaldo can get a pass since he's started playing centrally a lot more over the last couple years.

he played two games as a striker last year. if we're talking best attacker sure, but i think in the initial comments there wasnt anybody insinuating the strikers mentioned were better than messi.
also i just get tired of the messi and ronaldo debate, looking past that for this.

unless you're looking at it as players who actually play the position even semi regularly

![]() ![]() this is the way im looking at it. messi is a right forward or winger. i get what you're saying, maybe i'm wrong in how i look at it, but i consider a striker to be a centre forward. a right or left sided winger is not a striker. messi is closer to being an attacking midfielder than a striker really

Maybe I should have said "centre forward" or whatever. That's what I meant at least. He's the best forward who plays the typical #9 position. Maybe I am biased because he's been my favourite striker since 2012. Aubameyang, Griezmann, Ibra, Lewandowski, Aguero and Kane aren't nearly as good for me when comparing their best level.
The only argument for me would be Suarez, but I prefer Costa's style of play a lot more. He's just a dirty bugger who scores the goals your team needs to win the match and has a lot of variety in his goals.

i'll concede to costa being pure class at his top level. i just don't think we see his top level near often enough. really hope he stays at chelsea though, tired of losing fun to watch footballers to china.
