Would be great for Arsenal and I'd be surprised to see the move. Rooney has never become the player he promised to become, at 17/18 he looked a genuine worldy and while he can still be a good player, he just doesn't seem fussed at Manu nowadays.

I really don't understand this idea that Rooney hasn't developed into a World Beater.
- The guy is by far the best attacker England has produced for over a decade. - He has won five Premier League titles, with this recent one being the only season in which he wasn't a MAJOR part in the success. - Won a Champions League. - One time PFA and Football Writers POTY and three time TOTY member. - Scored basically a goal every other game whilst only having one season as the main central striker in a 433 and one as a Second Striker in a 442 (both of which he scored more than 25 goals in the Premier League alone). The guy is absolutely World Class. Not only as a striker, but also as an all-round player.

As for not developing into a worldie, my point was that at a young age he was quite rightly compared with Messi and Ronaldo. It looked like he could have all the power, drive and striking ability of pre-leg break shearer plus a load more technical ability, pace and an engine. The titles come with the territory, for me he never reached his promise. Saying that, the criticism he is getting is probably more down to his personality than his ability, I'm surprised by how quickly manc fans have turned. Would be pretty crazy to sell, given RVP will surely be due for an injury lay off next year.. |

I always wondered about Messi's athleticism and at youth level wondered whether he'd cope without his barca team mates. Obviously nowadays he runs their whole show.
I think he had the talent. It is a shame if you don't reach your potential because of a lack of effort, which seems to be the call from fans. I wouldn't know, I don't watch him train. |

Already explained about the CL, he did nothing the year United won it and nothing again in 2009 when they got to the final. All these trophies are irrelevant because he's been carried by his team mates. You wouldn't say John O'Shea is world class because of his honours list, so it doesn't make sense to do the same for Rooney. I've already made a point about his stats as well. Plus he plays for Man. United. Any striker can score goals in that team. Quote:

Rooney is a World Class player. Many hundreds of players have received the same level of hype that Rooney was given but didn't go on to be anywhere near as good a player. Don't try and play down his quality just because he isn't as good as the two best footballers of all time.

I'm only countering your points tbh. City goal and W. Ham hat-trick aside, United won the title because of Berbatov, not Rooney.
We aren't going to agree. Who's better, Wenger or Mourinho? |

The thing about Rooney isn't about what he's done but what he's going to do.
He doesn't want to be a part of the club, he doesn't want to work under Moyes. Even if he did stay his heart isn't going to be in it. He's still only 27, For someone who cost £20something million they've had almost a decade service out of him, they could still get a reasonable fee for someone that age. Selling him now would be good business.
