Given the above, why?

Because I don't take Fluffy's opinion as fact. Rooney is one of the Top 5 strikers in the World and would be the best striker we could sign realistically (using that word loosely).

I wasn't taking about Fluff's opinion: I know you are he disagree over Rooney. I was pointing to his selection of comments --- all negative --- from a Man U forum. If they don't think he's worth keeping...?

He's not a top 5 striker tbh.

Surely Messi, Ronaldo, Falcao (you disagree), Lewandowski, Aguero, Tevez, Cavani, van Persie, Suarez, are all better than him?

TH I think the only forum they're even slightly bothered is RedCafe but they're Glazer loving idiots on there anyway, read on from here - Wayne Rooney - Page 229 - RedCafe.net

I was saying before to a Utd supporting mate, when was his last good game and he couldn't even come up with one. Not in the same vein as Giggs vs Chelsea/Madrid/QPR, Hernandez vs Us or van Persie vs loads of teams. It was similar last season as well with the exception of the Bolton hat-trick, Arsenal 8-2 and taking two penalties against Chelsea.

I think saying he's played out of position blah blah blah is just a way of detracting from his unfulfilled potential and bad form, ignoring the fact that 'In the hole' was always regarded as his best position anyway and that's where he's been playing, he looked quite good there when van Nistelrooy was the out and out striker. Did well with Saha as well. Even if it was a genuine point, Welbeck was played out of position against Madrid and was actually brilliant that game and has been in a lot of the games he's played this season despite not scoring much and being played out of position. Rooney was subbed off 'cos he kept losing the ball.

Sir Alex Ferguson RETIRES - YouTube

This interview is brilliant.

Would the pressure come on you if you went 5 years without a trophy?

SAF: It won't happen. I will never go 5 years without a trophy.

Gary Neville on diving - YouTube

That's good too. Neville is great.

Ronaldo isn't a striker, very strange to include him. I don't count Messi nowadays because it's not really fair. Also, he is basically an attacking midfielder that just so happens to play in a team without a striker.

Rooney is certainly better than Lewandowski, Suarez, Tevez, Aguero and Cavani. I think Falcao's goal record speaks for itself to be honest, even if I rate Rooney as an overall player a tad higher.

RVP
Ibra
Falcao
Rooney
Cavani

That's my Top 5 in order.

Semantics imo. Ronaldo is spearheading his team's attack.

Yeah I see what you're saying but Villa has played 30+ games this season and 50+ in 2010/11. Messi, like Ronaldo, is spearheading his team's attack, that's why I included him. He's a world class winger, playmaker and striker rolled into one and certainly spends enough time up front to be considered a 'striker' in my opinion.

If it does then so should Cavani's, given that he's been a 30+ goals a season player for the past three years and has a better strike rate than Falcao.

I'm not sure what my top 5 would be tbh. With the exception of maybe Tevez and Aguero, all of the names I mentioned have been consistently good for a few years now. I'm starting to think Rooney's 2010 was a fluke. A period of sustained good form.

Tevez does a role Rooney supposedly excels at, better than Rooney and Aguero's all round game is better than Rooney's.

I forgot Ibrahimovic and David Villa as well. I'd say they're both better than Rooney as well.

Also in other news, FA Cup final is tomorrow. What an absolutely disgraceful decision by the FA to play this with the league still not over, when teams like Wigan are battling to stay up. They're going to have to write this off if they have any chance of survival surely. Will be completely one sided.

The FA continue with their quest to destroy the FA Cup.

FA (Fucking Arseholes)
UEFA (Unbelievable European Fucking Arseholes)
FIFA (Fucking Idiots and Fucking Arseholes)
FAI (Fucking Arseholes of Ireland)
I could go on...

Normally I would agree, but this year its a ****ing godsend. It's just a shame City don't have De Jong to finish off Wigan's remaining defensive cover and ideally, send them to the depths...On a serious note, it will be great for them if they could win it, especially as this could be Martinez's moving year...
