It still means Ferdinand plays. I still don't think he's anywhere near his best.
I actually think he's had his day.

^ And he's our captain now too.

I know he's a scouser and therefore you probably dislike him but does anyone see a reason to take it off him, just to give it to Ferdinand?

Nope. Shocking decision, and just about everyone I've talked to about it (Man U fans included) agree.

Well, there's him too. He does get injured far too much these days, which comes with the age, but I thought he was really solid against Valencia and Bolton when I saw him. I think he's worth a starting spot, but only because Capello didn't call up Gary Cahill for some bizarre reason.

We're talking about a man who asked Heskey to come back!

Calling Davies up was a strange one too. At 33 he's hardly going to be around for the finals should England qualify. Wouldn't it be a better idea to blood a younger forward for the future?

That was a strange decision. I was thinking that was exactly what he was going to do after the World Cup, drop some of the older players and start to work in a younger squad for the Euro's and the next World Cup.

I don't see the likes of Davies and Ferdinand being around in four years time, for a start.

Yeah, it's one of them cases where the fans think they know better than an experienced manager but really, it just makes sense.

Gerrard, Ferdinand, Lampard etc.

Have had 3 world cups and 2 euros to win something, and they haven't.
The one person in the squad I'd build the team around would be Gerrard.
Feridnand was one of the top 5 defenders in the world at one point, but I'm afraid he's done. I feel Terry is heading that way as well.
It's time to bed in the Adam Johnsons and get a young squad together who know how to play together.

I find it really strange after the world cup we had that Capello hasn't had some kind of overhaul.

I predict we'll qualify with ease and then go out in the last 16 or the last 8.

I personally feel that Gerrard, Lamps and to a lesser extent Terry all still have roles to play up to and including at least the Euro's but yeah, I would hope that Capello is looking beyond that and looking for opportunities to allow some of the younger players and ultimately replacements for the individuals I mentioned to come through.

Ferdinand and Davies are already out of contention, in my eyes.

For me, Lamaprd and Gerrard just don't play well together.
The only way to solve that problem, put Gerrard on the left.
England's best player (certainly at the World Cup) being put out of position to make room for someone else? Not for me.
I think they should build the midfield around Gerrard, where he's playing in his favourite position.

It would raise too many eyebrows if that were to happen though, but that's definitely what I'd do. After that world cup, we need to think about the future of England.

Personally I'd scrap all players over the age of 28.
Now is the time to rebuild a new national squad using the Euro's as a bedding in period for the next World Cup.

On another related topic. It'll be interesting to see how well Rooney plays tonight.

All players over 28?
You need some experienced players to build the team around...
