Being a Gooner I'm quietly optimistic ahead of the new season, AS LONG AS we acquire a new goalkeeper and a centre back before september 1st. The signing of Chamakh could be a masterstroke, finally we may have genuine quality to back up RVP when he gets one of his injuries. We just need to bolster the defence. I'm quite excited about our young Englishmen too, here's hoping they make an impact this year.

^ God, that was torture to watch. I was wondering how they could possibly pass the ball and now i realise, they don't. I had a bit of a conflicted moment when i wondered whether or not i should laugh when that lad went to take a shot but missed the ball and felll over but the woman filming, or at least near to the person filming, who burst out laughing made me feel a little less guilty.
Also Stunt (and RT but he's probably still on holiday) whats your verdict on Welbeck? |

I pissed myself all the way through, I want Fregie to sign number 8 up! I'm a bad person
Welbeck, a good player, but not a United player. I think he'll make it in the premier league, because he's premier league quality, but I don't think he'll make it at the highest level. When a player goes on loan from United, it's rare that they come back to feature. It's usually just a way of upping the price. John O'shea, Beckham, Evans aside I can't think of many others that've gone on loan and then featured in the managers plans. I think he's a great signing for Sunderland, no disrespect to you lot but I think that's his level. |

Of course no disrespect, i see your point. We're nowhere near your level. To be fair we still need a few more seasons and continued improvement to establish ourselves as Premiership quality.
I was always impressed with Welbeck but it's good to get a Mancs view on things. Personally i'm happy with the signing and I hope he does well. Evans was great for us too, we love him up here. The new season is nearly underway. Bring it on. |

I think when a player goes on loan, how they develop depends on the team they go to. Jonny Evans was really looked after at Sunderland and he showed so much promise, I remember us loaning somebody to Newcastle and he hardly got a game. So I feel like if Welbeck is gonna shine, Sunderland would be as good a club as any to do so. He obviously has something there, but it's whether we'll see the best of it. I rate Evans > Ferdinand these days. So Welbeck is still young, and still could prove to be Manchester United quality but I just have a feeling he's being sent on loan to get his £££ up.

Yeah i think you're probably right. Fergie had said that Welbeck was only going out on loan somewhere he could be guaranteed a decent amount of games. I don't think he was bothered where aslong as they made that commitment and so apparently Bruce has. Obviously the sale of Jones helped that.
But he does seem to have a lot of promise. I was more than happy to see him come here. The thing that concerns me a little is we already have one striker who is still more promise than proven quality in Frasier Campbell. We're going to be relying heavily on another strong season from Darren Bent i think. Still definitely worth taking him on loan though, hopefully he can show what he has to offer. |

I thought Evans would be sold when he went out on loan, he didn't look like anything special and I love him now. Please have the same effect on Welbeck.
He can play on the left as well as up top, maybe that will be an option? I think Bent & Welbeck >> Bent & Frasier Campbell. lulz, Blackpool are beating Wigan 1-0. Poor Bulldog. |

Oh yeah, i forgot he could play wide left. That could be an option for us too. We have Reid and Richardson to play on the left but Reid looks just as comfortable in the middle and Richardson can adapt to the middle, play behind Bent or left back where he is today. So its another option at least.
2-0 to Blackpool now... EDIT: 3-0! |
