I was feeling half confident, until the fat Spanish waiter came out with his comments about Atletico and how tired his players were. It's like he was making excuses before they got a pasting.
I wouldn't put my hopes on Wigan doing it, if they were at the JJB I'd be a lot more optimistic.. If we do lose the league today, it's been a solid effort. And if a couple of things went our way (I.E our defenders not dying at the same time, or Rooney getting injured towards the end of the season, if Rooney played the Chelsea game I believe we would've won that.) but it's better to lose the league on account of a few pieces of band luck than in Liverpool style.. Fingers crossed the Wigan do the business though if Liverpool are two shit to do it. |

I'd be quietly confident Wigan could pull something spectacular off if we didn't have to do it at the Bridge - our home form's basically what's kept us up this season (W6-D6-L6; make of that what you will ). Even if worst comes to worst though, provided you win at Sunderland anything's possible on the last day. Football's a weird old game when all's said and done, and strange things can happen in it (Wigan staying in the top flight for 6 seasons for instance) - one of many reasons it's a great a game as it is.

I thought Stoke were gonna do something spectacular and they got absolutely twatted. And Stoke are better than Wigan so.. it doesn't look good, but like you say footy isn't as predictable as that. United are better than Burnley. So they should beat Burnley.. Some things just don't go that way.
But if Liverpool don't get something I'll pretty much concede that it's over. |

Not sure about Stoke being much of a significantly better team than Wigan, but in Tony Pulis they've certainly got a much more experienced manager to hold things together. Considering Bobby Martinez only hung up his boots 3 years ago, it's pretty amazing that he's managed to keep the latics in the top flight. I was watching an interview with Dave Whelan the other day though where he said how next season would be a huge test for him, and I find it hard to disagree (admittedly more out of excitement than dread though). Bobby definitely has the potential to be one of the top managers in Europe all the same - I'd even put money on that.
As for Liverpool-Chelsea, I guess all there is left to do is hope. I wouldn't write your chances of breaking the record for successive titles off even if Chelskia do pull through though. |

Yeah United pretty much need Liverpool to get something today or I think its all over too.
I never expect anything from United. I always expect for us to get beat, home or away, but we've gave them a couple of scares in recent times so i hope Bruce puts his money where his mouth is when he talks about wanting to finish in the top half and goes for it today. Not a 5 man defence, but 2 upfront and actually try to take it to United today. We have nothing to lose but 10th place so id rather see 2 upfront and for us to try and play rather than sit back, and get beat 4-0 instead of 1-0 if thats how it works out. I dont want Chelsea to win the league, but id love to see us get something out of Man U today. |

In case anyone didn't already know, Liverpool were absolutely pathetic at Anfield today. I was almost embarassed for them - not a trace of passion about their performance or anything. I thought it was particularly hilarious when Gerrard not only set up Drogba for the first goal, but also shaped up to take a free kick on the edge of the Chelsea area and had Aquilani knock it out of his way as he ran up to hit it. How on earth did they make runners-up last season?!

This is the real footballing story of the weekend
BBC Sport - Football - Guernsey win FA National League System Cup Even more impressive when you consider the Liverpool team had 4 divisions of players to choose from & Guernsey had one division of 9 clubs to choose from.

^ Nice stuff. Always good to see the little guys get one over the big 'uns.
Talking of which; BBC Sport - Football - Wigan 2-2 Hull Pain in the arse how we couldn't win it despite being marginally the better side (their equaliser was an absolute joke too), but I guess I couldn't really have hoped for much more, what with both our seasons being over and all that. Wouldn't count on the lads beating Chelski but, as I've said before, weirder things have happened this season, so it's not over 'til it's over. |
