I`ve just read on yahoo news that this summer could be the hottest in the UK since 1976! Autumn or winter in South Africa for 4 weeks, could a great place to be.

It sure will be. Especially if England can get over these horrible WC form and pull it out the bag.

The problem is, that England over the years have never had a squad that was capable of going the whole way (too many weaknesses in key areas) but the press does a very good job every tournament of whipping up the population into a frenzied state, in that we are potential world cup winners, so anything less than actually reaching the very later stages is normally seen as an absolute disaster and the next couple of months are spent dissecting where it all went wrong.

It would be great to see England go off to the world cup without a lot of these pressures and just put on a good show, I`d love to see them win the WC but I know quarters are a more realistic goal.

I'd say England are easily among the world's elite teams at the moment, but not so sure I'd put them in the top 4 teams in the world ahead of, say, Brazil, Spain, Italy or Argentina (although both the latter have shown encouraging signs of weakness in the last couple of years). So, yeah, I think we'll hit the quarters myself. Regardless of where we end up, I'm just really happy England have actually qualified with the ease they did, and I'm gonna (try and) enjoy every minute of England's involvement though - after all, it's been a bloody long four years since Germany 2006.

As for the rest of the tournament, hope it's a bit more of a spectacle than 2006 was. When all's said and done though, I guess nothing'll beat Euro 2004 as far as all that goes eh.

Very true that...

As a non-english resident, I am gonna take a dig, but the English press, no matter what sport it is, are absolutely relentless. They can never stop being *******s, especially in the cricket. If Strauss loses one game they want him to get axed, if Johnson only finishes second in 6 nations, get the axe... They never stop!

Hopefully England can pull a semi, maybe a final off this year, just so the critics don't call for their heads as much. I think even if they did win the WC, they would still find a flaw in something.

Scotland don't enhance any tournament, we get our jollies watching the mighty Engurland do what they do best and blame everything unt everyone for their brief stay in tournaments, if Rooney gets injured england's shagged..

We still have Crouch and Defoe, who on a personal level I prefer to Rooney anyway.

And course we'll get to the quarters, and get knocked out. It is, after all, English tradition.

If they put any of the form strikers in they could do well. As long as it is not Heskey. If only Carew was English
