It is all a bit ridiculous eh. Funny thing is, I remember reading on football365 that ITV1 had it, back when this story first broke just before the Croatia game - something like a few posters there said it was according to Sky+. Dunno how true it all was at the time as I didn't have access to Sky at the time, but it's a bit weird if they did actually have the broadcasting rights before.

It's a national disgrace!
Never mind ITV! The BBC, by definition, should secure the rights to all England matches anyway. The English national team should be available to watch on proper tele and go out to the nation for free. Well, as free as our TV license allows at least. If they think I'm going to pay to watch this match streamed via an internet pop up box, a' la youtube...they can fuck right off!!! |

I heard the warnings about this months ago & assumed the BBC would pick it up by default. I mean whats the point in having a national broadcaster and paying for a licence fee if they can't show stuff like this. It's outrageous.
I hope nobody buys it so that these people get the message that we don't want this shit. All I can say is thank God they've already qualified so i'm basically just missing a friendly. And even if it does take off, I notice that they've limited this one million subscribers. One million paying customers trying to view the same stream & they think it's going to go without a hitch. There's no way in hell this could happen realistically.

Well it says the rights were sold to Setanta originally. Once that went belly up, if no one is willing to pay for the rights for it then theres not much anyone can do.
What exactly is the deal with England matches now then? Wasnt there a time when all England internationals had to be free to air on terrestrial television? Or is that just for the major tournaments? |

I seem to remember when England played Italy in the final game of the France 98 qualifiers there was outrage it was only available on Sky. If I remember correctly they sorted it out by having Sky show it live and ITV showing it on a 15 minute delay.

I don't remember that but it's still stupid really. If we have to pay licence fee's then I agree it would be nice if we could be promised every England game. Club football is a whole different story, i know what i would prefer but you can understand the bidding wars for the rights. Our national team would ideally be a different matter.
It's just really frustrating to watch football on TV now. I love Sky Sports and i'm happy to pay for Sky in general but now I need Sky AND ESPN AND to fork out money for a STREAM? I don't see it happening. |

From BBC Sport.
2017: GOAL Aston Villa 1-0 Manchester City Villa goal: You just could not make this game up. James Milner swings over a corner from the Villa right and - check this out - Richard Dunne gets up above Gareth Barry to thump a header into the far corner past Shay Given. No, he doesn't celebrate - and some City fans even applaud their former skipper. |
