I like the look of a jeep too, but not those fancy modern ones that you could take your grandma to church in. To live the full military-macho dream, a jeep must be free of fancy extras and be as uncomfortable as possible:-



^ On the streets here it's still possible to see a vehicle like this being driven around and on two occasions I was lucky enough to be given a ride in one. The door feels like you're closing a garden gate and the interiors are austere; the dash is a flat piece of metal with about one switch and an old circular speedometer. A student of mine had one, which had a couple of drainholes in the floor and no roof. His tip: when it rains you must keep moving - you only get wet when you stop.
