Clearly smoking weed is a much worse thing to do, as evidenced by Josh Gordon's full season suspension versus Ray Rice's two game suspension.

Is this a serious post? Go on to ESPN.com and come back to me once you understand the situation so I can hear your thoughts. I'm disgusted by this and how it was handled by the NFL.

Never mind, I forgot weed is legal in a couple of states so that makes it a bit different I guess. In principle though I have no problem with sporting bodies coming down hard on athletes testing positive for banned substances particularly if it's not a first offence. |

What makes it infuriating is not that the guy got in trouble for testing positive for marijuana, but the fact that a guy actually punched his fiancee in the face and knocked her unconscious and received a tremendously less serious punishment. That's basically saying one offense is more serious than the other, and I think we all know which offense should be treated more seriously.
It's a baffling double standard.

If you're taking something on the banned substance list potentially you're gaining an unfair advantage over your opponents who aren't doing that. It's dishonest and it's cheating. & If athletes are cheating that brings the integrity of the sport into disrepute so they should get hefty punishments imo. Plus it can affect outcomes & have massive financial implications. Punching your fiancee in a casino has nothing to do with the sport really. |

In what way does weed grant you an advantage over your opponents? We're not talking about someone taking steroids. These are both outside incidents that are unrelated to the NFL, so in that context they should be considered by their respective real-world severity.
