I would've given Gordon half a season for sure, but my main issue is with Rice, and I'm even a life-long Baltimore Ravens fan. If Gordon deserved a year then Rice deserved three years, is what I'm getting at.

It's completely bizarre that one of our most authoritarian presidents is still seen as a right-wing hero. His style of appealing to social conservatives and hard line fundamentalist Christians tainted the GOP so heavily we're only now seeing a shift in tactics within the party.

Do you know it is ILLEGAL for the NFL to suspend a player who gets a DUI? They are not allowed to take action against said player until they are convicted of teh actual crime. Case and point, the two Steeler running backs would were blazing in a car last week. They played on Sunday. While I think Josh Gordon is an idiot and should just give up the grass like a f*cking adult until he retires, the NFL is slowly turning into the worst organization in the country. Like, they're approaching Comcast levels of scumbag right now.
I agree on harsher penalties for repeat offenders but think about this; Gordons' first penalty was last year in which he was suspended...two games. Ray Rice, as Yorke points out, BEAT THE SH*T out of his now wife, and he gets two games. The Goods has always commissioned this league in a "f*ck up and you get ****ed" sort of way. The Rice ruling is just atrocious. I actually have a better example then the Gordon suspension on how f*cked up the NFL is. Matt Prater, kicker of the Broncos, tested positive for alcohol last week. He had a beer AT HIS HOME and got randomly drug tested. The reason for this was because of his past issues with alcohol, not because he just had a beer. The NFL suspended him for FOUR GAMES. Apparently it doesn't matter what you do in the NFL, as long as it is your first time doing it. I guarantee that if Ray Rice beats his wife for a second time, he'll probably get something closer to six games. |

Why should he have to give it up and why is doing so any more "grown up" than continuing to smoke? Weed has no tactical advantage in the game and it's a fairly safe pastime when used responsibly. It's a PR thing for the NFL but obviously it's backfiring in today's day and age when the average person doesn't give two flying passes about recreational drug use. The dude could have pain or weed could simply be the way he relaxes, who cares? Yes he should have known it would be an issue but it's time to change the rules, not continue accepting them.

It is the grown up thing to give it up because most people do that when they work jobs that randomly drug tests.

I agree that the rules are archaic and stupid but they be the rules. Gordon isn't an innocent victim here though. They told him not to smoke. He said, "okay, I promise not to smoke." Then he got caught again smoking.
Don't turn this into a weed argument. It's been done. Nobody cares anymore. We know weed is harmless. The issue is the way it was handled compared to other suspensions this year featuring 100% more offensive and disturbing behavior. I'll also add that the NFL taking SIX MONTHS to come to this decision, one week before the season starts, is f*cking juvenile. Poor Cleveland. The NFL should have made this decision in April so that Cleveland could have drafted a WR in one of the most WR deep draft classes we've ever had. The whole process is deplorable. The NFL as a company is deplorable. It isn't a weed thing. It's a business thing. The NFL is a horrible company. But hey, week one is next week right? Who's watching the games? Oh yeah, F*CKING EVERYBODY INCLUDING MYSELF. |

Not trying to bring up the weed is harmless thing, just raging at the stupidity of the way things are run over there.
I do think it's going to be a decent season. There's no hope for my team so I'm just sitting back and taking it all in. |
