I remember the band hanging out in front of the club in SF. My friend said hi to them first and mentioned we drove from out of state to see the shows. I asked him how seriously he took their music and he was like very seriously and said something about fans like us coming a long way to see their shows. I was listening to Swans Children of God on my walkman and asked him to sign the cover. He was like that’s a Swans record and I was like I know but I consider y’all to be in the same class of bands or something like that. He signed it “Children of Mike - Jon Spencer” I still got it. Cafritz wasn’t there but Bob Bert was and he signed it, too. Back before the Internet it was much harder to know how important certain people were but if it were today I’d have a ****load of questions for Bob Bert and I’d have to gush. He’s a top ten rock’n’roll drummer of all time. At that time, I already had Bad Moon Rising carved in my consciousness (I listened to it over and over and over) but I was so ****ing stupid I didn’t know it was the same drummer on Dial M.

That video of the Blues Explosion tearing apart that Australian kids' show is one of my favorite things. I'll bet they're mad fun to party with.

I just love that they turned it up to 11 on from what I understand was a music show for teeny boppers. Like I legitimately don't know if Jon Spencer tried so hard cause it was a chance to get noticed on TV or if he just thought it would be funny.
