Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics discussion
If you are watching the Olympics and want to discuss your favourite events, this is the thread for you! I suspect that most of the discussion will centre around the hockey, men's and women's alike, but at least we won't be clogging up the NHL thread.
So talk about your favourite events or what you've been watching here! I love the Olympics so hopefully we can have a conversation. |
Really only looking forward to curling and hockey.
|
I watched some great wipes in slopestyle last night men's and womens.
Also saw some great **** ups in figure skating. The only reason I watch figure skating is to see them mess up. Curling is definitely one of my faves that I'm looking forward to and snowboarding half pipe men's and women's. The Canadian favorite for men's slopestyle totally choked. |
Downhill, and Hockey! Lets go!
I always wanted to be an Olympic Ski Jumper though. |

The only thing that makes figure skating worth watching is when the female skaters get a wedgie, sometimes all the way from the front to the back.
|
I love women's figure skating, what's not to love about pretty graceful women in skimpy outfits, come on. Men's figure skating, *click*.
I really enjoy most of the Winter Olympics, but hockey is the best. As much as I hate to admit it, the opening ceremonies were excellent. The projections on the floor were nothing short of amazing. The section with the train high above the venue depicting industrial Russia was totally cool and I loved the music. I turned it off immediately before Putin spoke. Have I mentioned that I hate Putin? |

Just showed up in the Mail today. I was really hoping it would show before the games. You can also see my signed Scott Niedermayer photo in the background from the 2010 Olympic games in my hometown. As well as I realized Hockey Night in Canada on the TV haha. |

ESPN.com - Sale, Pelletier share gold with Russian pair |
Pretty cool that two Canadian sisters won Gold and Silver in the same event.
http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bf-cUeoCMAIV6fK.jpg I enjoy most things in the Winter Olympics but nothing really grips me like certain events in the Summer Olympics do (except for hockey, of course, which single-handedly makes the Winter Olympics better for me). Still interested in seeing how the big ice affects Canada and USA. I think those two are the most complete teams, but Sweden and Russia have a distinct advantage of more of their players being more accustomed to the big ice. Still confident Canada will win though. They have the easiest group which should set them up nicely for the knockout round. If they can get that number 1 seed, they're probably looking at a country like Switzerland in the quarters. |
Anyone here only watch hockey at the Olympics?

The way the American media is portraying Sochi, one would think that the Olympics were a work camp or something horrible. I feel so sorry for Russia. They are hosting the games and very excited about it from what I can gather, and other countries are ****ting all over it.
They're trying, God. And what happened last time AMERICA hosted any Olympics? Oh, yeah, domestic terrorism. The US media needs to gtfo. This is not political. And the moguls are fab; love that event, even though it makes my ankles and knees hurt just watching. |

The Olympics are always political and always have been plus we are still harboring old feelings from when they were are rivals in the cold war. The amount of shady shit that Russia did with the budget for setting up the Olympics and it's still not really ready. They just barely have things together. It is a complete shit show and I think it's weird that you are defending them. http://rlv.zcache.com/sochiproblems_..._8nhma_512.jpg With that said, I need to get one of these shirts. It perfectly represents what is going on over there. :banghead: |

and Didnt USA host the olympics in 2002? I think the bombings were back in 1996 in Atlanta. |
The olympics are always gonna be political with a terrorism chance because its the only worldly event of its kind which makes it the grandest stage for any religous or militant or political group or even just a lone psycho to make themselves and their cause known. Munich in 72 comes to mind as well when the isrsel team was killed. Wasnt it at the olympics the americans did the black power fist thing too?? It does look ****ty from what I've seen I mean its the Olympics it should be prestine. All that time n money.
I'm hopin usa wins hockey but it sucks rootin against crosby |
I have a new favorite sport to watch Biathlon especially women's. I haven't seen men's but I probably wouldn't like it.
The main reason I'm all over this sport is for the fact that after they go through the trouble and shooting 10 targets then cross country skiing across the finish line. They are so exhausted that they just fall to the ground and the camera man gets some lovely perv shots in of their ass. |
I've really enjoyed the snowboarding and I've had the curling and the speed skating on a splitscreen today. As usual, the Olympics make sports I wouldnt normally be watching fun.
|
Dammit! I missed the Mens Downhill yesterday. Crap.
At least I can still catch the Womens DH, and Super G. Too bad Lindsay Vonn is out. |
For the Canadians:
Anyone else confused with the line combinations a bit? Kunitz-Crosby-Carter Sharp-Toews-Nash Marleau-Getzlaf-Perry Benn-Tavares-Bergeron St. Louis-Duchene Can't say I'm loving Carter on the top line but I can deal with it with Stamkos out. Bottom six is just weird to me though. Why bring Bergeron if you aren't going to use him at center? They obviously like his defensive game and faceoff ability or else they wouldn't have taken him. All they're doing by putting him on the wing is offsetting those qualities. And to put him with Tavares, who isn't the strongest defensively or the best faceoff guy, along with playing a game that translates very well to the wing and having success playing the wing internationally before, doesn't make sense to me. I'd also like to see Marleau in more of a checking role. If it were up to me (and Kunitz has to play...): Kunitz-Crosby-Carter Tavares-Getzlaf-Perry Sharp-Toews-Nash Marleau-Bergeron-Benn Duchene St. Louis The D pairs they were going with in practice were perfect. |
I would at least switch Tavares and Bergeron, maybe move Bergeron to the 3rd line with Marleau, and move Getzlaf to the second line.
|
Getzlaf and Perry are locks to play together though. I basically figured those would be the lines...my only changes would be to put Bergeron in the middle. He's there for his lockdown style of play..and thats a centerman's job.
|
Crazy to think that the Maple Leafs have better 1st line wingers than Team Canada..
|
That's a ridiculous statement.
