Forwards:

James van Riemsdyk - Joe Pavelski - Phil Kessel
Zach Parise - David Backes - T.J. Oshie
Patrick Kane - Ryan Kesler - Dustin Brown
Max Pacioretty - Paul Stastny - Ryan Callahan
Derek Stepan
Blake Wheeler

Defense:

Cam Fowler - Ryan Suter
Ryan McDonagh - John Carlson
Kevin Shattenkirk - Paul Martin
Brooks Orpik - Justin Faulk

Pavelski is an interesting pick between the two Toronto wingers. Arguably the US's most complete player along with Backes, and he's essentially a much, much, much, much better version of Bozak so that could work out well.

I love Kesler with Kane but would have given him more of an offensive threat on the other wing like Parise, as adding Brown seems like a bit too much grit to surround your best offensive player with.

Backes/Oshie is a given, and Parise on there as well might make that their best line.

Interesting to see Fowler up with Suter. That's a lot of responsibility for him, but he'll be able to take more chances playing with a guy as steady as Suter.

Overall, that roster has the most balance of anyone in the tournament, along with having the least drop-off from line-to-line and pairing-to-pairing, which essentially makes them match-up proof. You can't pinpoint a specific scoring line there and you can't pinpoint a distinct checking line either.

So on Wednesday, Canada plays the US in women's hockey, hopefully I'll get to watch it. Would like to see Amanda Kessel play - apparently she is as good as her brother Phil.

I'm not twisting anything around. My second comment was a general one and unrelated to my first comment. It was reflecting what men tend to say about female hockey players.

butthead aka 216 02-11-2014 06:39 AM

thanks for clarifyin that he wasnt sayin women cant be good at hockey

women can be good at sports they just arent as good as men cause of physical reasons

I get that. But it doesn't mean they can't simply be good at a sport.

Thom Yorke 02-11-2014 08:37 AM

If you're talking about how good she is relative to other women, she might be better than Phil. She's considered one of the best female players in the world. Phil isn't at that level for men.

Yes, based on her stats for the last 3 completed seasons... she has put up good numbers. 46 goals in 37 games for '12/'13 is excellent. Totally on track to achieve 50 goals in 50 games. She's not playing for Minnesota this year, of course because she had been training with the national team for the Olympics.

Wait huh not what I meant. I just meant she is not at the same skill level as kessel.

But I mean c'mon the Canadian women's team plays in Alberta. They went 3-11-4 against midget teams this year. So yeah they are really good but not NHL level.

Comparative to the rest of women's hockey yeah maybe she's the best I don't know. Phil is an nhl superstar tho. Apologies if I was being offensive in some way.

I've been loving the curling. Obviously following the coverage of the GB teams. I was also pretty hooked on the snowboarding halfpipe yesterday. The final was incredibly dramatic with White crashing out in 4th place. Carina Vogt winning gold in the womens ski jumping will probably go down as one of my favourite moments of the games too.

Huge win by the Canadian Women this morning.

Definitely big for confidence as they weren't great in their pre-tournament games vs. the US, but it's essentially meaningless in the context of the tournament. When there are only two teams capable of winning really, it doesn't matter who gets the first or second seed.

****ing Meghan Agosta though. Gahdamn.

Thom Yorke 02-13-2014 03:21 PM

Despite what seems like the apocalypse here in Canada by only winning by two, I thought Canada played well today. Bergeron, Benn and Tavares were fantastic together and I'd like to see them get more ice time, although Babcock doesn't look like he's very open to that at the moment. The Toews and Getzlaf lines played well enough as well. While Crosby was pretty decent, I'd really like to see some better wings up there. I couldn't believe how poorly Carter played today, and Chris Kunitz is Chris Kunitz. They have an opportunity to bring both St. Louis and Duchene up to test them out against Austria, but I think we'll only see St. Louis get that chance, as I'm pretty sure they're looking at Kunitz-Crosby as a lock.

The D was awesome today. I get wanting to test Subban out as well tomorrow, but I couldn't fault any of the d-men today.

Price really wasn't tested much, so I can't say much about his performance.

Plankton 02-14-2014 07:45 AM

Anyone watch the figure skating last night? I almost pissed myself when Parisienne Walkways (Gary Moore) came on.

Taxman 02-14-2014 11:19 AM

We are dividing Norway into pieces.

Taxman 02-15-2014 06:15 AM

So Barkov's tournament is over. First Koivu, then Filppula and now Barkov. This is kinda bad luck.

I watched the Hockey, think it was Sweden vs Switzerland. Was OK. Funny that it finished 1-0 and the goal only came late on.

Ninetales 02-15-2014 04:48 PM

Being introduced to hockey by watching Switzerland play eek

Also wow Slovenia beat Slovakia. 20% of their country's hockey players are on the Olympic team. It's insane that they won a game

A bit over an hour and then Finland vs Canada. I'm very surprised if we win. But who can tell?

Laces Out Dan! 02-16-2014 01:45 PM

The Fins kept it mighty close today. But luckily Doughty is a beauty and took the team on the his back.

Paul Smeenus 02-16-2014 01:49 PM

Canada/US final in women's hockey on Thursday. Was there really any other outcome?

Sweden and Switzerland will play for bronze.

butthead aka 216 02-17-2014 03:57 PM

ya know im the type of guy to make fun of womens sports but the hockey has impressed me

Scarlett O'Hara 02-17-2014 04:20 PM

Lol its really unusual! I can't understand it at all.

djchameleon 02-17-2014 04:24 PM

I'm pretty much in love with Skeleton now and will look out for it more in the future.

Cross country skiing is so boring to watch but snowboarding cross is pretty dope and it's shorter so that's a plus.

Also that US/Russia shootout was awesome.

im guessing you watched the US/Sweden game but damn that Swiss goalie was en fuego against Canada. Good thing they got some by her early or that couldve been a scare. Should be a good gold medal game tho.

Paul Smeenus 02-19-2014 10:38 PM

I didn't watch that game but I watched Canada trump Latvia 2-1. Sweet.

Now for the gold medal showdown in women's hockey tomorrow, Canada vs. USA. 7 am, you bet I'll be up!

Yep, at noon here. Should be quite interesting. I was secretly hoping for a USA/Canada final in men's as well, but alas, it won't be happening :(

But most importantly... HOCKEY ALL DAY TOMORROW!!!1!11!! YAYYYYY!!1!!!1

Mojo 02-20-2014 06:50 AM

I've never watched so much curling. It's really held my interest. Glad to see our mens team make their final. I was gutted our women didn't make theirs but very happy to see them win bronze today. I hope Canada win this final now.
