Rooney never turns it on at the World Cup,. so it's not like I don't understand peoples frustrations. But for instance CB doesn't think he had a good season last season and I do. I just don't think he rates him in general as much as I do, and Rooney does seem to divide opinion.
I think he has to play, but where he's at his best, and build the midfield around him. We have plenty of options this time around. Portugal will still be favourites to win their last two games and go through. But beating Ghana and then getting something from Portugal was always gonna be the way through for the USA so after Portugals goal difference taking a thumping, Pepe getting suspended and Coentrao getting injured, I don't see any reason Americans shouldn't be optimistic. And yes, Belgium have to qualify from this group and should win it. Not that Russia are a push-over but realistically they should ease past Algeria and Korea, and for my money probably beat Russia too. But they've been awful so far. |

Can confirm I don't rate Rooney as much as other people. Also Sterling doesn't deserve to be dropped after the game he had vs Italy but you know if one of Sterling or Rooney is dropped it'll be Sterling lol.
We are going out on Thursday anyway. |

But why does he have to drop either Sterling or Rooney? If he wants to play Sturridge, Rooney, Welbeck and Sterling why can't Welbeck and Sterling play either side? Isn't that what you had expected anyway?

Na it was being discussed on the previous page, but if one was dropped it wouldn't be Rooney.
Why would you move Sterling from #10 after the game he had though? I'd keep him there and drop Rooney to be honest. Lallana and Welbeck either side. My man Sturridge up top. When's Ox back? |

Sterling did play very well there. No doubt. I'd move him though because Rooney can have a better game there than he did out wide, and Sterling should be able to have just as much of an impact out wide, given that's where he is used to playing. I wouldn't necessarily change the team, just play people in their usual position.
Maybe Lallana for Welbeck, but I'm not sure that's gonna happen. |

Well, Rooney did set him up for a very easy goal. He was as useless as Rooney aside from that. And the player who replaces him would also be a good player, it's not like England only have four good players.
Rooney is simply our best striker, so play him there.
