I don't think there will be much of a surprise in this World Cup.

Nope. Argentina's group is piss easy, it's a dream for them, Nigeria might have been tricky a decade ago, but not now. Messi will score a few vs Iran and Bosnia.

A good surprise choice.

Football I always find follows certain trends. For example no European team has won the WC on the American continent and likewise no Latin American team has won the WC on European soil. The two times it went elsewhere to Asia and Africa it finished equal with a Latin American victory and then with a European one.

Therefore like Goofle I can't see anybody but Brazil or Argentina winning here but if I were to pick a surprise I pick Uruguay as well, huge tradition and almost playing at home in Brazil. they're a far better choice than either Chile or Ecuador BUT Mexico could be one to watch here.

And by backed I mean, forgot to use the free 50 quid bet to back them at those odds when they were struggling to qualify.
Being older than you guys, I can remember Argentina back in 1986 who despite having the world's best player in Maradona struggled through their qualifiers and had poor results in their friendlies but they clicked in the finals and went onto win the whole thing, personally I thought it was one of the best world cups that I've ever seen.

The popular surprise choice seems to be Belgium also.
The best Belgian team since the era of Enzo Scifo in the 1980s, but I can't see them getting much further than the first knock-out phase.

As said should breeze through their group.

Sadly I agree.

Woah

Our game vs Italy (1st game) kicks off at 2am our time, the only game in the tournament on this late.

It is going to be mental. Going into Brum city centre and watching at 2am on the big screen on a Saturday night lol, worst time to have it.

Goofle 12-06-2013 06:06 PM

Italy are going to ruin England tbf.

My man Balotelli will secure his move to Arsenal...

:)

You are welcome to him, he has been trouble everywhere he's gone.

I'd like an underdog to pleasantly surprise us all. This won't take place at all indeed. I'm not looking forward to Brazil 2014 for the 1st time: footie has become downright money-oriented and has lost all of its fickleness. I do believe Uruguay will beat Italy. Not England though. I do believe the best nowadays footballer, Messi (aye, I still think him a lot better than Ronaldo), will end up down in the dumps again, for Argentina are a repellent team: just can't be convinced that Tevez won't be in Brazil. Final game? Brazil v Germany.

Cuthbert 12-08-2013 10:14 PM

Messi is good enough to score hattricks against all three teams in the group to be honest. It wouldn't surprise me if he did either. He scores hattricks against Brazil and Uruguay.

IvanMC 12-09-2013 07:40 AM

Messi is supreme but he won't be able to do what Maradona did in 1986: lift the cup absolutely on his own.

Cuthbert 12-09-2013 07:51 AM

Maradona didn't lift it absolutely on his own. In the final, Argentina put two players on to Germany's star player (the player was Lothar Matthaus) to mark him out of the game, despite this, the 'inferior' Argentinian outfield players were still good enough to beat Germany without Maradona scoring in the game. Not as poor a side as people make out.
