Default espn

well i have made a few posts in the sports section and just wanted to make a topic about ESPN just so anyone can drop any thoughts they have about ESPN as a whole, personalities, analysts, shows, etc. I will drop some opinion and people can maybe respond to what they think or bring up other stuff

  • ESPN sensationalizes everything like most major network for ratings and many sports fans don't form their own opinions, they just regurgetate from espn talking heads.

ESPN is a monopoly on sports coverage (in US) aside from local and regional coverage and even tho i dont think they have a conscious ill-meaning agenda i think they poison and brainwash people (Joe Pa comes to mind, I am a huge supporter of him). But i still watch all the time cause i do love sports coverage

Favorite commentators: Robert Flores, Neil Everett, Stan Verett

    Favorite Show: Around the Horn

Favorite announcing crew: NBAs Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy

Least favorite crew: NBA crew of Jalen Rose, Magic, Wilbon, and SImmons (though I like simmons and his site Grantland.com)

Least favorite announcer for games: Hubie Brown

-Stephen A Smith is funny and awesome

Favorite ESPN radio shows:

-SVP and Russilo show (awesome).
-The Herd (Cowherd is kinda douchy but i like his show)

I was also a huge Jim Rome fan who took his talents to...somewhere else I guess.

Also right behind the SVP show is Dan Patrick's show although he is no longer ESPN. He is awesome.

Worst show ever: Dan LeBatard Highly Questionable

I think ESPN is one of the few networks that still stays pretty true to its subject matter (e.g. not TLC, History Channel, Weather Channel). That being said, they really do have an unfortunate obsession with certain subjects occasionally. The Aaron Hernandez biz last week was absurd, seemed like 3/4 of the whole hour-long segment was about it. And they never seem to give a rip about hockey.

Favorites? Neil Everett, Steven A Smith, Bill Simmons, Lindsay Czarniak, JA Adande, John Buccigross, Chris McKendry, Chris Fowler

I only watch football so I generally only tune in to NFL or Sportscenter during the season. That being said I think that Trent Dilfer is a great analyst and that Merril Hodge can suck a fat one.

czarniak is a babe also great favorites list even though I am not a huge fan of the McKendry/Buccigross combo when they are on-air together. too many awkward silences in the broadcast because of buccigross's obscure music references lol.

Hoge is indeed a douche. he just comes off that way. im not much of a dilfer fan though, i actualyl hate him. not more than Jaws though, that guy is a used car salesmen of espn.

Anyone else think they are trying so hard to make this johnny manziel thing a huge story?? i hate when the espn circlejerk/hype machine gets rolling. this is such a non-story to me.

a few years ago i always though it was funny when there was a lot of seual tension between hannah storm and josh elliot (now with good morning america). hannah storm is a total babe for her age

My primary thought about ESPN is that annoys me that most of the cost of my cable bill is a result of the high fees charged to the provider by ESPN, a station I never watch.

Ridiculous opinions are pretty much everywhere. ESPN's opinion is just the loudest, because that's what everyone watches.

I agree completely. It's like that Kaepernick Dolphins hat business. The response was always "Yes this is concerning, but we both agree that this isn't major news." Yet, they kept on reporting on that story just to tell us it wasn't important. So clearly it was.

yep i dont understand it. espn always falls back on the idea that they 'discuss what the public is talkin about' but the pubic ends up talkin about what they discuss. so its kinda of a weird cycle. thats why i dont hold things against athletes as far as coverage goes. i used to hate tebow but realized i only hated him for the way he was covered in the media which isnt his fault.

anyone watch the ESPYs last night?? i caugh a small part of it cause I wanted to see Jon Hams monologue. i feel like pretty much everyone both fans and athletes think the ESPY awards are pointless

not sure if anyone else realized this but fox sports 1 just debuted this week

in short, it aims to compete with espn with their own brand of sportscenter.

The main anchors are the two guys from TSN, the canadian ESPN. I dont know their names but I have seen them on many youtube videos. They also have erin andrews, charissa thompson from espns first take, regis philbin, donovan mcnabb, andy roddick, and gary payton

they kind of have a roundtable type thing going on with thompson as the host and mcnabb, payton and roddick commenting on different topics. philbin has his own show on the channel.

kinda a mixed group of the biggest names they could find. mike tyson was on a lot but im not sure he is going to be regular. fox sports 1 (and 2) have contracts with nascar and the UFC which in my opinion bodes very well for them. plus fox has the right to NFC football games, mlb post season games and a TON of college football and basketball games.

didnt know if anyone else saw but its interesting to see someone make a legit push to compete with the titan that is ESPN. I think its partly why espn ust re-hired keith olbermann who many ppl thought burned his bridges years ago.
