Seattle hasn't had much luck as of late. I thought they were close when Beltre went there, but I was wrong. I would actually like to see teams like the M'S do well, would be good for baseball in general.

The pattern has been 1. A player rips the cover off the ball somewhere else 2. M's pay too much for him as a free agent 3. Player comes here and utterly SUCKS BALLS 4. M's either cut him or take it in the shorts on a trade 5. Player rips the cover off the ball elsewhere.

That's happened over and over and over. One of them came from the Angels, Scott Spiezio. All he did was become a key factor in the Cardinals 2006 World Series championship. Beltre is probably the best (or from my perspective, worst) examples. Some, like Richie Sexton and Chone Figgins, were never good again, but by then the M's had already paid them freakin millions. Especially Figgins.

Designated Hitter, good thing or bad thing?

All Star fan voting the starting lineup, good thing or bad thing?

All Star winning league home field advantage in World Series, good thing or bad thing?

Interleague play, good thing or bad thing?

DH is good, because the pitchers don't have to risk themselves doing a job that really isn't theirs. Although, pitchers hitting has always been a part of baseball. If they ever get rid of it for the NL I'll probably miss watching the occasional walk-off blooper from the pitcher. Some can even hit homers, but most hit under .200 and kill rallies, and I don't think the league will continue to let the AL have such a huge advantage by having the DH.

I think fan voting is perfect, because they usually get it somewhat right. Obviously the most popular players will get in, whether or not they're still even that good. Also, the ASG is made for the fans to begin with.

I don't think home field advantage really makes that big of a difference in the WS tbh.

Interleague is fine, but the AL is at an advantage when playing at home, since NL teams don't actually have a guy to DH, just their best bench player who usually isn't really cut out to be a DH. I should say I enjoy watching interleague games, just because I like to see some of the matchups.

@FtD on the DH rule, what about the argument that it takes the managerial decision process out of the game?

My take on it is that I like the way the leagues are different, and I wouldn't change either one.

This also raises another question, Edgar Martinez, the unquestioned greatest DH in the history of the AL, Hall of Fame or not?

I think I've already talked about this with you in shoutbox, but Edgar Martinez definitely deserves to be in the HOF. If pitchers can make the HOF, a DH should make it too. What's the only gripe about the DH making the hall? It's always been that they don't play as much, since they're only hitting and not playing the field.

Pitchers don't hit, and only play once a week pretty much, but how many of them have made the HOF? Martinez has the numbers to get in, but he's a DH.

I agree with you about the DH rule, though. I'd rather continue to see pitchers hit in the NL, but it isn't fair that one team is going out there with David Ortiz as their DH, while the other is using either a mediocre utility guy, an on-base guy, a base-runner guy, or a washed up power hitter who used to DH in the AL guy.
