Didn't want to start a new thread or use the English Football thread for this but wanted to share some info on the CPL. A year ago Canada formed their own football league and rather than using the silly Americanized MLS franchise format, actually stayed (relatively) true to the European club system. Amazing the support it received during the inaugural season and they are already making some huge moves to keep growing.

There were seven teams up until this week when the newest club Atletico Ottawa was announced. The name originally seemed really dumb but the club is actually owned by Atlético Madrid which I think is huge for the league.

Big moves being made for the sport in Canada and I'm very pleased to see it

Also, Go Wanderers!

TFW a Canadian goes to kick the ball but it's just a big snowball with a rock in the middle.

You gonna get down to a game? And who is your club of the ones that will be competing?

Sounds good and sensible, the Canadas are a decent bunch.

Halifax Wanderers were my local club. I now live about a 2 hour drive away from their home ground but will definitely be attending a couple games this season. They were pretty bad last year but the atmosphere at the game is surprisingly great.

Also a cool little bit that shows how huge yet empty Canada is:

"Matches between Pacific FC and HFX Wanderers FC require the third-longest road trips of any domestic professional soccer league in the world, with the two teams separated by 4,476 kilometres (2,781 miles)"

Erling Haaland > Kylian Mbappe

Haaland was born in England and eligible for us but has played competitively for Norway.

This makes me want to cry.

This player is a freak of nature.

He could've came to Manchester but he ditched us like an ugly girl at prom.

Heartbreaking.

Btw I'm glad he isn't playing for England, it's karma for Hargreaves.

He was never gonna play in a tournament with Canada though, I can understand it. With Haaland its literally the opposite. He'll struggle to qualify with Norway but could win things with England.

I fully respect his decision BTW.

Tomori is doing the same thing to us. I understand it and would probably do the same thing if I'm in their position, but it is still frustrating.

As for Halaand I think he seems to be closer to his Norwegian roots than his English ones. And England has no shortage of class attackers anyway. Where does he fit in England's full strength 11 unless they play a 2 striker formation?
